1. What is Calcium Aflofarm (banana flavor) and what is it used for
Calcium Aflofarm (banana flavor) is a syrup containing 116 mg of calcium ions in 5 ml of syrup.
Calcium Aflofarm (banana flavor) is indicated:
- to supplement calcium deficiencies, especially in states of increased demand (pregnancy, breastfeeding, periods of intense growth in children, convalescence, bone fractures, rickets);
- as a supportive treatment for allergic diseases, upper respiratory tract infections, osteoporosis.
2. Important information before taking Calcium Aflofarm (banana flavor)
When not to take Calcium Aflofarm (banana flavor):
- if the patient is allergic to the active substances or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
- if the patient has hypercalcemia (too high calcium levels in the blood), hypercalciuria (too high calcium levels in the urine), galactosemia.
Warnings and precautions
The medicine contains calcium. Due to the risk of overdose, before use, check if other taken medicines do not contain calcium.
Before starting to take Calcium Aflofarm (banana flavor), discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist.
- if the patient has a tendency to form kidney stones;
- if the patient has kidney and heart diseases. Concurrent use of cardiac glycosides and calcium compounds increases the risk of cardiac rhythm disorders. Do not administer with high doses of vitamin D or during the use of antibiotics from the tetracycline group and thiazide diuretics (e.g., chlorothiazide).
Calcium Aflofarm (banana flavor) and other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines the patient is taking or has recently taken, as well as medicines the patient plans to take.
The patient should inform the doctor if they are taking any of the following medicines or food products.
- Calcium compounds reduce the absorption of tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, fluorine compounds, sulfasalazine.
- Keep a three-hour interval between the administration of calcium preparations and other medicines.
- Concomitant use of calcium salts and thiazide diuretics may cause symptoms of milk-alkali syndrome (hypercalcemia, metabolic alkalosis, kidney failure).
- Vitamin D, glucocorticoids, parathyroid hormone, citric acid, and acidic food reaction increase the absorption of calcium salts.
- Excess lipids, alkaline food reaction, phytin (cereal products), oxalates (spinach, rhubarb), and phosphates reduce the absorption of calcium salts.
- Concurrent use of cardiac glycosides and calcium compounds increases the risk of cardiac rhythm disorders.
- High doses of calcium, especially in combination with vitamin D, may weaken the effect of verapamil and other calcium channel blockers (medicines used in hypertension and heart diseases).
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, thinks they may be pregnant, or plans to have a child, they should consult their doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
Driving and using machines
It has no effect.
Calcium Aflofarm (banana flavor) contains sucrose
The syrup contains sucrose in an amount of 1.53 g in 5 ml of the product. If the patient has previously been diagnosed with intolerance to some sugars, they should contact their doctor before taking the medicine.
3. How to take Calcium Aflofarm (banana flavor)
Oral administration. A measuring cup is attached to the packaging.
The recommended dose is:
- children aged 2 to 11 years - 2.5 to 5 ml of syrup 2 times a day;
- children aged 12 to 17 years - 5 to 10 ml of syrup 2 to 3 times a day;
- adults - 15 ml of syrup 2 to 3 times a day.
Taking a higher dose of Calcium Aflofarm (banana flavor) than recommended
Immediately consult a doctor or pharmacist, even if the patient's condition is good.
Missing a dose of Calcium Aflofarm (banana flavor)
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If a dose is missed and symptoms persist, take the next dose at the scheduled time.
In case of any further doubts about the use of this medicine, consult a doctor or pharmacist.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
In rare cases, gastrointestinal disorders may occur.
In patients with kidney failure, hypercalcemia may occur, with symptoms such as loss of appetite, gastrointestinal disorders, muscle weakness, polyuria.
In some people, during the use of the medicine, other side effects may occur.

5. How to store Calcium Aflofarm (banana flavor)
Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
Store in the original packaging, at a temperature below 25°C.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the label.
The expiry date refers to the last day of the given month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. This will help protect the environment.
6. Package contents and other information
What Calcium Aflofarm (banana flavor) contains
- The active substance of the medicine is calcium glubionate and calcium lactobionate.
- 5 ml of syrup contains 116 mg of calcium ions in the form of calcium glubionate and calcium lactobionate.
- The other ingredients are: sucrose, propionic acid, sodium benzoate (E 211), banana flavor AR 0476 G, hydrochloric acid 10%, purified water.
What Calcium Aflofarm (banana flavor) looks like and what the package contains
Calcium Aflofarm (banana flavor) is a syrup with a yellow-brown color, banana smell, and sweet, banana taste.
The medicine packaging is a glass bottle containing 150 ml of syrup, with an aluminum cap and a measuring cup.
