How to request a prescription online in Spain

Send your request for medical review in three steps.

1

Choose why you need the prescription

The platform includes several medical pathways for cases that can first be assessed through a questionnaire. If you want to request a prescription online but are not sure which option fits your situation, a video consultation is usually the better choice.

2

Complete the medical questionnaire

Tell us about your current symptoms, how long they have been present, previous conditions, allergies, treatments you use and any other relevant details. You can also name the medication you are requesting and attach medical documents. If you are looking for a way to request prescriptions online, this is the first step.

3

A licensed doctor reviews your case

The doctor reviews your request individually. They may decide the information is enough, ask for more details or recommend a video consultation. If the prescription is medically appropriate, it will be issued in line with Spanish regulations.

A review does not mean a prescription or treatment will be approved automatically. An online consultation does not replace an in-person visit when the doctor considers a physical examination or additional tests necessary.

Priority prescription review: what you should know

The priority review lets a doctor assess selected requests through a structured questionnaire. Every case is reviewed individually, and the decision always depends on the doctor's clinical judgement.

What the priority review is

Priority review is a medical assessment for selected situations where a doctor can make an initial evaluation from a structured questionnaire.

It is not a medicine sale, an automatic approval or a way to get an online prescription without a doctor. Each request is reviewed individually. The doctor decides whether a prescription is appropriate after considering your symptoms, medical history, available documents and the applicable rules.

If your case needs a fuller medical conversation, the doctor may recommend a video consultation before making a decision.

Advantages of requesting a prescription with Oladoctor

Oladoctor is a telemedicine platform that lets you request a medical review without starting with an in-person visit, when your case can be assessed through a clinical questionnaire.

The main advantages of the service include:

  • Completing a request in a few minutes from anywhere in Spain.
  • Individual review by a licensed doctor.
  • The possibility of receiving a prescription only when the doctor considers it medically appropriate.
  • Electronic issue in line with current regulations.
  • A clinical review before any decision is made.
  • Clear information about the review process before you submit the request.
  • A refund when the request is not approved, according to the terms published on the platform.

If you need medical review for one of the available pathways, you can submit your request from anywhere in Spain. The doctor will assess your case individually and decide whether to issue a prescription, recommend a video consultation or suggest another care option based on your situation.

When you can request an online prescription

Priority review is available for selected non-urgent health issues and certain medication-related requests that can be assessed by telemedicine when there is enough medical information.

The available options are shown on the platform. Whether this service is suitable depends on the reason for the request, the medication, your medical history and other clinical factors.

Not every case can be handled this way. Some treatments, medicines or recently developed symptoms require a broader assessment by video call, or follow-up with the appropriate specialist.

What information the doctor reviews

Before deciding whether a prescription is appropriate, the doctor reviews all the information you provide with your request.

They look not only at your current symptoms, but also at how long they have lasted, your medical history, chronic conditions, known allergies, regular medicines and possible contraindications or interactions. They may also consider medical reports, test results or previous prescriptions.

It is essential to answer the questionnaire fully and honestly. If key details are missing, or if there are doubts about your situation, the doctor may ask for more information or recommend another type of consultation.

When a request can be declined

Not every request ends with a prescription. The doctor remains fully independent and may decline the request if issuing a prescription would not be safe or medically justified.

A request may be rejected if the information is not sufficient, there are possible contraindications, the requested medication does not fit the symptoms described, or the case requires a physical examination, further tests or an in-person assessment.

In some cases the doctor may recommend a video consultation to gather more information. Prescription requests in Spain are subject to the doctor's clinical assessment and current regulations. If a request is not approved, the refund is handled according to the terms published on the platform.

E-prescription valid in Spain

When the doctor considers a prescription medically appropriate, they will issue an electronic prescription in line with Spanish law and the clinical judgement required for your case.

The digital prescription is issued by a doctor registered in Spain and can be used in Spanish pharmacies under the private electronic prescription system. Its validity depends on the medication prescribed, the clinical situation and the doctor's decision.

The medication itself is not included in the service and must be purchased separately at the pharmacy.

When a video consultation is needed

Sometimes the medical questionnaire is not enough for a responsible clinical assessment. In that situation, the doctor may recommend a video consultation before deciding whether a prescription is appropriate.

This can happen when symptoms are new or stronger than usual, when the diagnosis is unclear, when risks need to be assessed, when test results should be reviewed, or when the doctor needs to ask additional questions.

If your goal is to get a prescription online, remember that the doctor's priority is always a safe assessment. A video consultation also does not guarantee that a prescription will be issued.

Requesting a prescription vs. renewing a treatment

Priority review is for requests linked to the conditions available in this service. The doctor uses the medical questionnaire to decide whether a prescription can be issued.

If you need to continue a treatment that was previously prescribed and is already stable, Oladoctor has a separate prescription renewal service for that situation, with a different review process.

Keeping these services separate helps each request follow the right medical process and gives the doctor the information needed to make a well-founded decision.
