1. Qué es VapoRub y para qué se utiliza

VapoRub es una pomada que se utiliza para el alivio sintomático de la tos y la congestión nasal existente en el resfriado y la gripe. Puede utilizarse directamente sobre la piel (uso cutáneo) o diluida en agua caliente para la inhalación de los vapores.

2. Qué necesita saber antes de empezar a usar VapoRub

No use VapoRub:

  • si es alérgico a los principios activos o a alguno de los demás componentes de este medicamento (incluidos en la sección 6),
  • en niños menores de 6 años

Advertencias y precauciones

Consulte a su médico o farmacéutico antes de empezar a usar VapoRub:

  • si es hipersensible a perfumes o solventes,
  • si padece o ha padecido anteriormente episodios de convulsiones o epilepsia,
  • si padece o ha padecido anteriormente enfermedades como asma bronquial, u otras enfermedades o hipersensibilidades respiratorias.

Niños

Debe usarse con precaución en niños menores de 7 años, especialmente si han sufrido episodios de convulsiones o epilepsia.

3. Cómo usar VapoRub

Siga exactamente las instrucciones de administración del medicamento contenidas en este prospecto o las indicadas por su médico o farmacéutico. En caso de duda, pregunte a su médico o farmacéutico.

La dosis recomendada es:

Adultos y niños mayores de 6 años:

Uso cutáneo

  • Aplicar una fina capa de pomada sobre el pecho, cuello y espalda. Se debe evitar el contacto con ojos y mucosas. Repetir la aplicación hasta 3 veces al día. Llevar ropa holgada para facilitar la inhalación de los vapores.

Inhalación

  • Añadir una cucharada de VapoRub en un recipiente con agua caliente (no hirviendo). Respirar lo vapores durante 10-15 minutos

Precaución: ni VapoRub ni la mezcla deben recalentarse nunca en el microondas.

Los niños deben estar siempre bajo supervisión de un adulto durante el uso de este medicamento.

VapoRub es únicamente para uso externo. No debe excederse la dosis recomendada. No debe tragarse ni aplicarse en los orificios nasales o la cara. No debe aplicarse sobre piel dañada o con heridas.

No debe utilizarse durante más de 7 días consecutivos. Si los síntomas persisten o empeoran, consulte a su médico o farmacéutico.

Uso en niños

VapoRub está contraindicado en niños menores de 6 años.

Si usa más VapoRub del que debe

No se han notificado casos de sobredosis.

En caso de ingestión accidental, consulte inmediatamente a su médico o farmacéutico o llame al Servicio de Información Toxicológica, teléfono: 91 562 04 20, indicando el medicamento y la cantidad ingerida.

5. Conservación de VapoRub

Mantener este medicamento fuera de la vista y del alcance de los niños.

No requiere condiciones especiales de conservación.

Mantener alejado del fuego o las llamas.

No utilice este medicamento después de la fecha de caducidad que aparece en el envase después de CAD. La fecha de caducidad es el último día del mes que se indica.

Los medicamentos no se deben tirar por los desagües ni a la basura. Pregunte a su farmacéutico cómo deshacerse de los envases y de los medicamentos que ya no necesita. De esta forma ayudará, a proteger el medio ambiente.

6. Contenido del envase e información adicional

Composición de VapoRub

  • Los principios activos por 1 g de pomada son: 50 mg de alcanfor, 50 mg de esencia de trementina, 27,5 mg de mentol, 15 mg de esencia de eucalipto y 2,5 mg de timol.
  • Los demás componentes son: aceite de cedro, vaselina.
