1. Qué es ASACOL y para qué se utiliza

ASACOL está indicado en:

  • Tratamiento de la fase aguda de la colitis ulcerosa leve a moderada.
  • Tratamiento de mantenimiento de la remisión de la colitis ulcerosa (incluyendo pacientes que no toleran la salazosulfapiridina).
  • Tratamiento de la fase aguda de la enfermedad de Crohn y de mantenimiento de la remisión de la enfermedad de Crohn.

2. Antes de tomar ASACOL

No tome ASACOL si:

  • Si es alérgico (hipersensible) al ácido salicílico, a los salicilatos, o a cualquiera de los demás componentes de Asacol
  • padece úlcera duodenal o gástrica
  • padece diátesis hemorrágica
  • presenta anomalías de la coagulación
  • padece deterioro hepático o renal grave

Tenga especial cuidado con ASACOL:

  • Si alguna vez ha presentado insuficiencia renal. Cuando usted empieza a tomar ASACOL, su médico debe controlar su sangre regularmente para comprobar que su riñón funciona adecuadamente.
  • Han habido informes de aumento de niveles de enzimas hepáticas. Se recomienda precaución si se administra ASACOL a pacientes con insuficiencia hepática.
  • Cuando presente cualquier hemorragia difícil de justificar, hematomas, púrpura, dolor de garganta, fiebre o malestar general que ocurran durante el tratamiento, dígaselo a su médico por si hay que interrumpir el tratamiento.
  • Si sufre alguna enfermedad pulmonar, por ejemplo asma, su médico debe controlar su respiración regularmente.
  • Si alguna vez ha padecido reacciones adversas a la sulfasalazina, medicamento utilizado para el tratamiento de la colitis ulcerosa y de la enfermedad de Crohn.
  • Si ha sufrido alguna vez un exantema cutáneo intenso o descamación de la piel, ampollas o llagas en la boca después de utilizar mesalazina.

Si experimenta dolor de cabeza fuerte o recurrente, alteraciones de la visión o pitidos o zumbidos en los oídos contacte inmediatamente con su médico.

Pueden producirse cálculos renales con el uso de mesalazina. Los síntomas incluyen dolor en los lados del abdomen y presencia de sangre en la orina. Asegúrese de beber una cantidad suficiente de líquido durante el tratamiento con mesalazina.

Mesalazina puede producir una decoloración de la orina de color rojo-marrón tras el contacto con lejía de hipoclorito de sodio en el agua del inodoro. Se trata de una reacción química entre mesalazina y la lejía y es inofensiva.

ASACOL comprimidos no deberá administrarse con lactulosa o preparaciones similares que disminuyan el pH de las heces e impidan la liberación de mesalazina.

Se han observado erupciones cutáneas graves, como reacción al medicamento con eosinofilia y síntomas sistémicos (DRESS), síndrome de Stevens-Johnson (SSJ) y necrólisis epidérmica tóxica (NET), con el tratamiento a base de mesalazina. Deje de tomar mesalazina y solicite atención médica inmediatamente si observa alguno de los síntomas relacionados con estas reacciones cutáneas graves descritos en la sección 4.

Uso de otros medicamentos

Informe a su médico o farmacéutico si está utilizando o ha utilizado recientemente otros medicamentos incluso los adquiridos sin receta.

  • Medicamentos para evitar la coagulación de la sangre (anticoagulantes, por ej. warfarina).
  • Medicamentos para reducir la actividad del sistema inmune (por ej. azatiopirina o 6-mercaptopurina o tioguanina).

Embarazo y lactancia

3. Cómo tomar ASACOL

Siga exactamente las instrucciones de administración de ASACOL indicadas por su médico. Consulte a su médico o farmacéutico si tiene dudas.

ASACOL debe administrarse por vía oral.

Los comprimidos deberán tragarse enteros y antes de las comidas.

La dosis normal es:

Adultos

Colitis ulcerosa, tratamiento agudo de episodios leves a moderados: 2 comprimidos tres veces al día.

Tratamiento de mantenimiento de Colitis ulcerosa: de 2 a 4 comprimidos.

Enfermedad de Crohn: tratamiento de mantenimiento: 3 a 6 comprimidos distribuidos en 3 tomas por día.

Ancianos

La administración de ASACOL en ancianos debe realizarse con precaución y siempre limitada a aquellos pacientes con la función renal normal.

Uso en niños

No se ha establecido la eficacia y seguridad del empleo de ASACOL en niños menores de 5 años.

La información sobre el efecto en niños (entre 6 y 18 años de edad) es limitada.

Niños a partir de 6 años de edad

La recomendación general es que se puede administrar la mitad de la dosis del adulto a niños de hasta 40 kg de peso; y la dosis normal del adulto a niños por encima de 40 kg. No obstante, su médico le indicará la dosis adecuada para tratar su enfermedad.

Si toma más ASACOL del que debiera:

En caso de sobredosis o ingestión accidental, consulte a su médico o farmacéutico o acuda al hospital más cercano, o llame al Servicio de Información Toxicológica. Teléfono 91 562 04 20 (indicando el medicamento y la cantidad ingerida).

En caso de ingestión masiva de los comprimidos el tratamiento consiste en lavado gástrico, inducción al vómito, junto con medidas sintomáticas y de apoyo. No existe antídoto específico.

Si olvidó tomar ASACOL

Si se ha olvidado de tomar una dosis, tómesela tan pronto como se acuerde, y después tome la próxima dosis a su hora habitual.

No tome una dosis doble para compensar las dosis olvidadas.

4. Posibles efectos adversos

Al igual que todos los medicamentos ASACOL puede producir efectos adversos aunque no todas las personas los sufran.

Deje de tomar mesalazina y solicite ayuda médica inmediatamente si presenta alguno de los siguientes síntomas:

  • parches rojizos no elevados, o parches circulares o en forma de moneda en el tórax, con frecuencia con ampollas centrales, desescamación de la piel, úlceras en la boca, garganta, nariz, genitales y ojos, erupción generalizada, fiebre y aumento de los ganglios linfáticos. Estas erupciones cutáneas graves van precedidas a menudo de fiebre o síntomas de tipo gripal.

Informe inmediatamente a su médicosi experimenta dolor de cabeza fuerte o recurrente, alteraciones de la visión o pitidos o zumbidos en los oídos. 5. Conservación de ASACOL

Conservar por debajo de 25ºC. Conservar en el embalaje original.

Mantener este medicamento fuera de la vista y del alcance de los niños.

No utilice ASACOL después de la fecha de caducidad que aparece en el envase después de CAD. La fecha de caducidad es el último día del mes que se indica.

Los medicamentos no se deben tirar por los desagües ni a la basura. Deposite los envases y los medicamentos que no necesita en el Punto SIGRE de la farmacia. En caso de duda pregunte a su farmacéutico cómo deshacerse de los envases y de los medicamentos que no necesita. De esta forma ayudará a proteger el medio ambiente.

6. Información adicional

Composición deASACOL 400 mg comprimidos gastrorresistentes

  • El principio activo es mesalazina. Cada comprimido contiene 400 mg de mesalazina.
  • Los demás componentes son lactosa, carboximetilalmidón de patata, estearato magnésico, talco, polivinilpirrolidona, copolímero del ácido metacrílico tipo B, trietil citrato, óxido férrico amarillo (E172), óxido férrico rojo (E172) y polietilenglicol 6000.

Aspecto del producto y contenido del envase

ASACOL son comprimidos gastrorresistentes rojos, oblongos que están recubiertos con una resina de base acrílica (Eudragit-S) para asegurar la liberación del principio activo en la fracción terminal del íleon y del colon.
