1. Qué es Trientina Waymade y para qué se utiliza

Este medicamento se llama Trientina Waymade 200 mg cápsulas duras. En este prospecto, se denominará Trientina Waymade o trientina.

Trientina está indicada para el tratamiento de la enfermedad de Wilson en adultos, adolescentes y niños de 5 años de edad o mayores. Se usa en pacientes que no pueden tomar otro medicamento, D-penicilamina, debido a los efectos secundarios.

Este medicamento contiene el principio activo trientina, un agente quelante del cobre que se utiliza para eliminar el exceso de cobre del cuerpo. Trientina se fija al cobre, que luego es expulsado del cuerpo.

2. Qué necesita saber antes de empezar a tomar Trientina Waymade

No tome Trientina Waymade

Si es alérgico a la trientina o a alguno de los demás componentes de este medicamento (incluidos en la sección 6).

Los signos de una reacción alérgica son, entre otros, erupción cutánea, picor, hinchazón de la cara, desmayos y problemas para respirar.

Advertencias y precauciones

El médico tendrá que comprobar regularmente sus síntomas de la enfermedad y sus niveles de cobre en sangre y orina. El control periódico es especialmente importante al principio del tratamiento o cuando se cambia de dosis, en niños en crecimiento y mujeres embarazadas, para asegurarse de que los niveles de cobre se mantengan a nivel adecuado. Es posible que el médico tenga que aumentar o disminuir la dosis de trientina.

Pueden surgir problemas en el sistema nervioso (por ejemplo, temblor, falta de coordinación, dificultad para hablar, rigidez muscular y empeoramiento de los espasmos musculares), especialmente en pacientes que acaban de comenzar el tratamiento con trientina. Si nota alguno de ellos mientras toma este medicamento, debe informar a su médico inmediatamente.

Se han descrito reacciones pseudolúpicas (los síntomas podrían incluir erupción cutánea persistente, fiebre, dolor articular y cansancio) en algunos pacientes que han cambiado al medicamento con trientina después del medicamento con penicilamina. No obstante, no ha sido posible determinar si la reacción se debió a la trientina o al tratamiento anterior con penicilamina.

Otros medicamentos y Trientina Waymade

Informe a su médico o farmacéutico si está tomando, ha tomado recientemente o pudiera tener que tomar cualquier otro medicamento.

Si está tomando comprimidos de hierro o medicamentos que neutralizan el ácido en el estómago, deje que transcurran al menos 2 horas antes o después de tomar trientina, ya que podrían disminuir su efecto. Se recomienda tomar trientina al menos una hora antes o después de cualquier otro medicamento.

Toma de Trientina Waymade con alimentos y bebidas

Tome este medicamento solo con agua. No lo tome con otras bebidas, leche o alimentos porque podrían disminuir el efecto del medicamento. Evite comer o beber (salvo agua) durante 2 horas antes y 1 hora después de tomar el medicamento.

Embarazo y lactancia

Si está embarazada o en periodo de lactancia, cree que podría estar embarazada o tiene intención de quedarse embarazada, consulte a su médico o farmacéutico antes de utilizar este medicamento. Es muy importante que continúe con el tratamiento para mantener los niveles normales de cobre durante el embarazo. Debe comentar detenidamente con su médico los posibles beneficios del tratamiento, teniendo en cuenta a la vez los riesgos que pudieran existir. El médico le aconsejará cuál es el mejor tratamiento y la mejor dosis en su situación. Si se queda embarazada mientras toma trientina, hable con su médico.

Si está embarazada y toma trientina, le harán controles durante toda la gestación para detectar cualquier efecto en el bebé o cualquier cambio en sus niveles de cobre.

La escasa información disponible indica que trientina no se excreta en la leche materna, pero no hay certeza de que el bebé esté exento de riesgo. Es importante que informe a su médico si está dando el pecho o si tiene intención de hacerlo. El médico le ayudará a decidir si es mejor suspender la lactancia o dejar de tomar trientina considerando el beneficio de la lactancia para el niño y el beneficio de trientina para la madre. El médico le aconsejará cuál es el mejor tratamiento y la mejor dosis en su situación.

Conducción y uso de máquinas

No es probable que trientina afecte a su capacidad para conducir o utilizar herramientas o máquinas.

3. Cómo tomar Trientina Waymade

Siga exactamente las instrucciones de administración de este medicamento indicadas por su médico o farmacéutico. En caso de duda, consulte de nuevo a su médico o farmacéutico.

Adultos (incluidos pacientes de edad avanzada)

La dosis habitual es de entre 4 y 8 cápsulas al día, que se toman por vía oral.

Uso en niños y adolescentes (de 5 a 17 años)

La dosis en niños y adolescentes depende de la edad y del peso corporal, y la ajustará el médico. Al principio del tratamiento la dosis varía entre 2 y 5 cápsulas al día.

Forma de administración

El médico decidirá cuál es la dosis correcta para usted.

La dosis diaria total puede dividirse en 2 a 4 dosis más pequeñas, según lo que indique el médico. Trague las cápsulas enteras con agua, con el estómago vacío, como mínimo 1 hora antes o 2 horas después de las comidas.

Los pacientes que tengan dificultades para tragar deben ponerse en contacto con su médico.

NO ingerir el desecante.

Si toma más Trientina Waymade del que debe

Si usted toma más medicamento del que debería, podría tener náuseas, vómitos y mareos. Debe ponerse en contacto con su médico u otro profesional sanitario de inmediato.

En caso de sobredosis o ingestión accidental, consulte inmediatamente a su médico o farmacéutico o llame al Servicio de Información toxicológica, teléfono: 91 562 04 20.

Si olvidó tomarTrientina Waymade

Si se olvida de tomar una dosis, tome la siguiente dosis a la hora programada normal.

No tome una dosis doble para compensar las dosis olvidadas.

Si interrumpe el tratamiento con Trientina Waymade

Este medicamento está indicado para el uso a largo plazo porque la enfermedad de Wilson es una afección que dura toda vida. No suspenda ni cambie el tratamiento sin comentárselo a su médico, aunque se encuentre mejor.

4. Posibles efectos adversos

Al igual que todos los medicamentos, este medicamento puede producir efectos adversos, aunque no todas las personas los sufran.

5. Conservación de Trientina Waymade

Mantener este medicamento fuera de la vista y del alcance de los niños.

No utilice este medicamento después de la fecha de caducidad que aparece en el frasco y en la caja después de CAD. La fecha de caducidad es el último día del mes que se indica.

Usar en los 3 meses posteriores a la primera apertura del frasco.

Conservar por debajo de 30°C.

Conservar en el embalaje original. Mantener el frasco perfectamente cerrado y conservar el desecante de gel de sílice en el frasco, para protegerlo de la humedad.

NO ingerir el desecante.

Los medicamentos no se deben tirar por los desagües ni a la basura. Deposite los envases y los medicamentos que no necesita en el punto SIGRE de la farmacia. En caso de duda, pregunte a su farmacéutico cómo deshacerse de los envases y de los medicamentos que ya no necesita. De esta forma, ayudará a proteger el medio ambiente.

Composición de Trientina Waymade

  • El principio activo es trientina. Cada cápsula dura contiene 300 mg de trientina dihidrocloruro equivalente a 200 mg de trientina.

Cada cápsula dura es una cápsula cilíndrica de gelatina dura de tamaño "1" con una tapa opaca de color blanco, impresa con "NAV" en tinta negra y un cuerpo de color blanco opaco, impreso con "121" en tinta negra. La cápsula contiene un de polvo de blanco a blanquecino.
