1. Qué es Topigel y para qué se utiliza

Es un anestésico tópico que actúa suprimiendo el dolor cuando se aplica externamente sobre la zona de la

boca a tratar.

Está indicado para el alivio local del dolor dental o de boca, como el producido por el roce de prótesis,

extracciones, pequeñas heridas bucales, aftas y pequeñas llagas en adultos y niños a partir de 6 años.

Debe consultar a un médico si empeora o si no mejora después de 2 días de tratamiento.

2. Qué necesita saber antes de empezar a usar Topigel

No use Topigel

  • Si es alérgico a la benzocaína, a otros anestésicos locales derivados del ácido p-aminobenzoico o a cualquiera de los componentes de este medicamento (incluidos en la sección 6).

Advertencias y precauciones

Consulte a su médico, farmacéutico o enfermero antes de empezar a usar Topigel

  • Si no tolera otros anestésicos locales como el ácido paraaminobenzoico (PABA), los parabenos o la parafenilendiamina (un componente de tinte para el pelo).
  • Si tiene alguna lesión grave o extensa en la boca.
  • No se debe tomar dosis superiores a la recomendada en el apartado 3 (Cómo toma Topigel ).
  • Si tiene asma, bronquitis o enfisema.
  • Deje de tomar el medicamento y consulte inmediatamente con su médico si nota: dolor de cabeza,

mareos, respiración superficial, nauseas, fatiga o taquicardia.

  • Las personas mayores enfermas o debilitadas deben consultar con el médico antes de tomar este

medicamento ya que son más sensibles a sus posibles reacciones adversas.

  • No ingerir.
  • Evite el contacto con los ojos.
  • No debe comer o beber mientras persista el entumecimiento de la boca, debido al riesgo de morderse la lengua o la mucosa bucal y de atragantarse

Uso de Topigel con otros medicamentos

Informe a su médico o farmacéutico si está utilizando, ha utilizado recientemente o podría tener que tomar cualquier otro medicamento.

Este medicamento puede interaccionar con:

  • Sulfamidas (medicamento para tratar infecciones): no deben utilizarse a la vez que benzocaína, ya que puede disminuir el efecto antibacteriano de las sulfamidas
  • Medicamentos que contengan hialuronidasa : no deben utilizarse a la vez que la benzocaína, ya que puede aumentar los efectos adversos de la benzocaína
  • Medicamentos que contengan colinesterasa, utilizados para tratar enfermedades como el Alzheimer, mistemia gravis o glaucoma, porque al utilizarse al mismo tiempo se inhibe el metabolismo de la benzocaína
  • Otros anestésicos locales.
  • En personas sensibles a la benzocaína, los tintes del pelo del tipo parafenilendiamina pueden provocar una dermatitis de contacto grave.

Uso de Topigel con alimentos y bebidas

No utilizar este medicamento antes de las comidas o antes de beber (Ver sección advertencias y

precauciones).

Embarazo y Lactancia

Si está embarazada o en periodo de lactancia, o cree que podría estar embarazada o tiene intención de

quedarse embarazada, consulte a su médico o farmacéutico antes de utilizar este medicamento.

No debe utilizar benzocaína durante el embarazo.

Se desconoce si benzocaína se excreta en la leche materna, por lo que las mujeres en periodo de lactancia

no deben utilizar este medicamento.

Uso en mayores de 65 años

Las personas mayores de 65 años y los pacientes debilitados pueden ser más sensibles a los efectos adversos

de la benzocaína por lo que deberá consultar con su médico.

Conducción y uso de máquinas

No afecta a la conducción y uso de máquinas..

3. Cómo usar Topigel

Siga exactamente las instrucciones de administración del medicamento contenidas en este prospecto o las

indicadas por su médico o farmacéutico. En caso de duda pregunte a su médico o farmacéutico.

Este medicamento es para administrar en la boca. No se debe ingerir.

La dosis recomendada es:

Adultos y adolescentes:

Aplicar en la zona a tratar, una pequeña cantidad del medicamento, mediante pequeños toques, como

máximo 3 ó 4 veces al día.

Niños de 6-12 años: solo bajo la supervisión de un adulto, igual que en el caso anterior.

Niños de 2-6 años: bajo control médico

Niños menores de 2 años: bajo estricto control médico.

No aplicar este medicamento más de 3 ó 4 veces al día.

Si empeora o si el dolor persiste después de 2 días de tratamiento debe consultar al médico.

Lávese las manos después de la aplicación del medicamento.

Si usa más Topigel del que debiera

Los signos de sobredosificación pueden ser: coloración azulada de la piel, habla balbuceante,

adormecimiento, marcha tambaleante, visión borrosa o doble, mareos, excitación o convulsiones, tintineos de oídos, aumento de sudoración. También puede disminuir la tensión arterial.

En caso de sobredosis o ingestión accidental, consultar inmediatamente a un médico o acudir a un centro

médico o llamar al Servicio de Información Toxicológica (teléfono 91 562 04 20), indicando el medicamento

y la cantidad ingerida.

4. Posibles efectos adversos

Al igual que todos los medicamentos, Topigel puede producir efectos adversos, aunque no

todas las personas los sufran.

Durante el periodo de utilización de la benzocaína se han producido los siguientes efectos adversos cuya

frecuencia no se ha podido establecer con exactitud:

Urticaria, edema, reacción anafilactoide (dermatitis de contacto). Reacciones cruzadas con otros anestésicos locales tipo ester. Foto sensibilidad, mal sabor de boca, deshidratación de las mucosas y dificultades para tragar.

Sensación de quemazón bucal Metahemoglobinemia cuyos síntomas son: dolor de cabeza, mareos, respiración superficial, nauseas, fatiga ó taquicardia).

El contacto prolongado de la benzocaína con las membranas mucosas puede producir deshidratación del

epitelio y endurecimiento de las mucosas.

5. Conservación de Topigel

Mantener este medicamento fuera de la vista y del alcance de los niños.

No utilice este medicamento después de la fecha de caducidad que aparece en el envase después de CAD. La fecha de caducidad es el último día del mes que se indica

No conservar a temperatura superior a 30º C. Mantener en el envase perfectamente cerrado para protegerlo de la luz.

Los medicamentos no se deben tirar por los desagües ni a la basura. Deposite los envases y los

medicamentos que no necesita en el Punto SIGRE de la farmacia. En caso de duda pregunte a su

farmacéutico cómo deshacerse de los envases y de los medicamentos que no necesita. De esta forma,

ayudará a proteger el medio ambiente.
