1. Qué es POLARAMINE 5 mg/ml SOLUCIÓN INYECTABLE y para qué se utiliza

Polaramine 5 mg/ml solución inyectable se presenta en forma de solución inyectable. El principio activo de Polaramine es dexclorfeniramina que pertenece a un grupo de medicamentos conocidos como antihistamínicos (usados para tratar la alergia) que compiten con la histamina por los sitios receptores de las células efectoras.

Polaramine está indicado en situaciones en las que no es practicable la administración oral: en el alivio de reacciones alérgicas a sangre o plasma, en el tratamiento de reacciones anafilácticas conjuntamente con adrenalina y otras medidas necesarias después de controlar las manifestaciones agudas y en otras afecciones alérgicas no complicadas de tipo inmediato cuando el tratamiento por vía oral es imposible o está contraindicado.

2. ANTES DE USAR POLARAMINE 5 mg/ml SOLUCIÓN INYECTABLE

No use Polaramine 5 mg/ml solución inyectable

  • si es alérgico (hipersensible) a dexclorfeniramina maleato o a cualquiera de los demás componentes de Polaramine o a otros antihistamínicos con estructura química similar.
  • Polaramine no debe ser administrado a niños menores de dos años.
  • si está bajo tratamiento con un tipo especial de antidepresivos conocidos como inhibidores de la monoamino-oxidasa (MAO) o durante las dos semanas siguientes a la interrupción del tratamiento.

Tenga especial cuidado con Polaramine 5 mg/ml solución inyectable

  • si padece glaucoma de ángulo estrecho, cierta clase de úlcera de estómago (estenosante), obstrucción piloroduodenal, enfermedades de la próstata o estrechez de cuello de la vejiga urinaria, asma bronquial y aumento de la presión intraocular, enfermedades del tiroides, enfermedades cardiovasculares, incluyendo hipertensión arterial.
  • si tiene más de 60 años, ya que en pacientes mayores de 60 años, Polaramine puede causar mareos, sedación y bajadas de tensión.
  • Polaramine puede causar excitación, especialmente en niños.
  • si está usando Polaramine, no debe desempeñar actividades que requieran una máxima atención, tales como conducir un automóvil u operar instrumentos o maquinaria.

Uso de otros medicamentos

Informe a su médico o farmacéutico si está utilizando o ha utilizado recientemente otros medicamentos, incluso los adquiridos sin receta.

Un tipo especial de antidepresivos conocidos como inhibidores de la monoamino-oxidasa prolongan e intensifican el efecto de los antihistamínicos, pudiendo producir hipotensión grave, es decir, bajadas graves de la tensión arterial.

El uso simultáneo de antihistamínicos con alcohol, antidepresivos del grupo de los tricíclicos, barbitúricos u otros medicamentos que actúan en el sistema nervioso central puede potenciar el efecto sedante de la dexclorfeniramina.

Los medicamentos del grupo del Polaramine (antihistamínicos) pueden disminuir la acción de los anticoagulantes orales, por lo que debe consultar con su médico antes de usar Polaramine.

Interacción con pruebas de laboratorio

El tratamiento con Polaramine debe suspenderse al menos, 48 horas antes de realizar cualquier prueba cutánea de alergia, ya que los medicamentos del grupo del Polaramine (antihistamínicos) pueden enmascarar el resultado de estas pruebas.

3. Cómo USAR POLARAMINE 5 mg/ml SOLUCIÓN INYECTABLE

Siga exactamente las instrucciones de administración de Polaramine indicadas por su médico. Consulte a su médico o farmacéutico si tiene dudas.

Polaramine 5 mg/ml solución inyectable debe ser administrado por personal sanitario.

Adultos: La dosis deberá individualizarse de acuerdo a la necesidad y la respuesta del paciente. La dosis recomendada es de 5 mg (1 ampolla) administrada por vía intravenosa o intramuscular profunda. La dosis máxima diaria es de 20 mg (4 ampollas). En el caso de reacción durante una transfusión no administre Polaramine en la transfusión, sino separadamente.

4. Posibles efectos adversos

Al igual que todos los medicamentos, Polaramine puede producir efectos adversos, aunque no todas las personas los sufran.

El efecto adverso más frecuente producido por dexclorfeniramina maleato es la somnolencia. Otros posibles efectos adversos incluyen aquellos atribuibles a sus propiedades anticolinérgicas, así como aquellos comunes a los antihistamínicos, tales como:

Generales:urticaria, erupción medicamentosa, reacciones alérgicas graves (shock anafiláctico), sensibilidad a la luz, sudoración excesiva, escalofríos, sequedad de boca, nariz y garganta. Cardiovasculares: dolor de cabeza, palpitaciones, taquicardia, extrasístoles, hipotensión arterial. Hematológicos:anemia hemolítica, anemia hipoplástica, trombocitopenia, agranulocitosis. Neurológicos:sedación, mareo, vértigo, tinnitus, laberintitis aguda, trastornos de la coordinación, fatiga, confusión, inquietud, excitación, nerviosismo, temblor, irritabilidad, insomnio, euforia, parestesias, visión borrosa, histeria, neuritis, convulsiones.

Gastrointestinales:dolor epigástrico, anorexia, náuseas, vómitos, diarrea, estreñimiento.

Genitourinarios:polaquiuria, dificultad al orinar, retención urinaria, acortamiento de los ciclos menstruales.

Respiratorios:secreciones bronquiales espesas, opresión torácica, obstrucción nasal, sibilancias.

Si considera que alguno de los efectos adversos que sufre es grave o si aprecia cualquier efecto adverso no mencionado en este prospecto, informe a su médico o farmacéutico.

5. Conservación de POLARAMINE 5 mg/ml SOLUCIÓN INYECTABLE

Mantener fuera del alcance y de la vista de los niños.

No conservar a temperatura superior a 30ºC.

No utilice Polaramine después de la fecha de caducidad que aparece en el envase después de CAD. La fecha de caducidad es el último día del mes que se indica.

Los medicamentos no se deben tirar por los desagües ni a la basura. Deposite los envases y los medicamentos que no necesita en el Punto SIGRE de la farmacia. En caso de duda pregunte a su farmacéutico cómo deshacerse de los envases y de los medicamentos que no necesita. De esta forma, ayudará a proteger el medio ambiente.
