1. Qué es Polaramine y para qué se utiliza

Dexclorfeniramina pertenece a un grupo de medicamentos conocidos como antihistamínicos.

Polaramine está indicado para el tratamiento sintomático de la rinitis alérgica estacional y perenne, rinitis vasomotora, conjuntivitis alérgica, manifestaciones alérgicas cutáneas no complicadas leves de urticaria y angioedema y reacciones a sangre o plasma. También está indicado en el tratamiento de reacciones anafilácticas conjuntamente con adrenalina u otras medidas adecuadas, después de controlar las manifestaciones agudas. Polaramine a menudo alivia las manifestaciones cutáneas tales como eczema alérgico, dermatitis atópica y de contacto, picaduras de insectos, dermografismos y reacciones medicamentosas.

2. Qué necesita saber antes de empezar a tomar Polaramine

No tome Polaramine

  • si es alérgico a maleato de dexclorfeniramina o a cualquiera de los demás componentes de este medicamento (incluidos en la sección 6).
  • Polaramine no debe ser administrado a recién nacidos y prematuros.
  • Si está bajo tratamiento con un tipo especial de antidepresivos conocidos como inhibidores de la monoamino-oxidasa (MAO) o durante las dos semanas siguientes a la interrupción del tratamiento.

Advertencias y precauciones

Consulte a su médico o farmacéutico antes de empezar a tomar Polaramine

  • Si padece glaucoma de ángulo estrecho, cierta clase de úlcera de estómago (estenosante), obstrucción piloroduodenal, enfermedades de la próstata o estrechez de cuello de la vejiga urinaria, enfermedades cardiovasculares, incluyendo hipertensión arterial, o si padece aumento de la presión intraocular o enfermedades del tiroides.
  • Si tiene más de 60 años, ya que en pacientes mayores de 60 años, Polaramine puede causar mareos, sedación y bajadas de tensión.

Niños

No se ha establecido la seguridad y eficacia de Polaramine en niños menores de 2 años, por lo que no debe administrarse a estos pacientes. Polaramine puede causar nerviosismo e intranquilidad especialmente en niños.

Toma de Polaramine con otros medicamentos

Comunique a su médico o farmacéutico si está tomando, ha tomado recientemente o podría tener que tomar cualquier otro medicamento.

Un tipo especial de antidepresivos conocidos como inhibidores de la monoamino-oxidasa prolongan e intensifican el efecto de los antihistamínicos, pudiendo producir hipotensión grave, es decir, bajadas graves de la tensión arterial.

El uso simultáneo de Polaramine con antidepresivos del grupo de los tricíclicos, barbitúricos u otros medicamentos que actúan en el sistema nervioso central puede potenciar el efecto sedante del Polaramine.

Los medicamentos del grupo del Polaramine (antihistamínicos) pueden disminuir la acción de los anticoagulantes orales, por lo que debe consultar con su médico antes de tomar Polaramine.

Toma de Polaramine con alimentos, bebidas y alcohol

El uso simultáneo de Polaramine con alcohol, puede potenciar el efecto sedante del Polaramine.

Interacción con pruebas de laboratorio

El tratamiento con Polaramine debe suspenderse al menos 48 horas antes de realizar cualquier prueba cutánea de alergia, ya que los medicamentos del grupo del Polaramine (antihistamínicos) pueden enmascarar el resultado de estas pruebas.

Embarazo, lactancia y fertilidad

Si está embarazada o en periodo de lactancia, cree que podría estar embarazada o tiene la intención de quedarse embarazada, consulte a su médico o farmacéutico antes de utilizar este medicamento.

Embarazo

Polaramine no debe administrarse durante el tercer trimestre del embarazo debido a que el recién nacido y los niños prematuros pueden tener reacciones severas graves a los antihistamínicos.

Durante los dos primeros trimestres de embarazo sólo se utilizará Polaramine si su médico lo considera necesario.

Lactancia

Se desconoce si Polaramine es eliminado por la leche humana, por lo que debe consultar con su médico si está en periodo de lactancia.

Conducción y uso de máquinas

Polaramine puede producir somnolencia alterando la capacidad mental y/o física. Si nota estos efectos evite conducir vehículos o utilizar máquinas.

Polaramine contiene sacarosa

Este medicamento contiene sacarosa. Si su médico le ha indicado que padece una intolerancia a ciertos azúcares, consulte con él antes de tomar este medicamento.

Polaramine contiene etanol

Este medicamento contiene 0,5% de etanol (alcohol), esta pequeña cantidad se corresponde con 24 mg/5 ml.

Polaramine contiene sorbitol

Este medicamento contiene sorbitol. Si su médico le ha indicado que padece una intolerancia a ciertos azúcares, consulte con él antes de tomar este medicamento.

Polaramine contiene colorante Ponceau 4R (E-124)

Este medicamento puede producir reacciones alérgicas porque contiene colorante Ponceau 4R (E-124).

Puede provocar asma, especialmente en pacientes alérgicos al ácido acetilsalicílico.

3. Cómo tomar Polaramine

Siga exactamente las instrucciones de administración de este medicamento indicadas por su médico. En caso de duda, consulte de nuevo a su médico o farmacéutico.

Su médico le indicará su dosis individualizada de acuerdo con las necesidades de la enfermedad y su respuesta.

En adultos y niños a partir de 12 años: la dosis recomendada es 2 mg (5 ml) 3 ó 4 veces al día.

Uso en niños

Niños de 6 a 12 años: 1 mg (2,5 ml) 3 ó 4 veces al día.

Niños de 2 a 6 años: 0,5 mg (1,25 ml) 3 ó 4 veces al día.

Forma de administración

Tomar con la jeringa dosificadora la dosis correspondiente que le haya prescrito su médico.

Si toma más Polaramine del que debe

En caso de sobredosis o ingestión accidental, consulte inmediatamente a su médico o farmacéutico o llame al Servicio de Información Toxicológica, teléfono (91) 562 04 20, indicando el medicamento y la cantidad ingerida.

Si olvidó tomar Polaramine

No tome una dosis doble para compensar las dosis olvidadas.

4. Posibles efectos adversos

Al igual que todos los medicamentos, este medicamento puede tener efectos adversos, aunque no todas las personas los sufran.

El efecto adverso observado más frecuentemente con el uso de Polaramine (antihistamínicos) es somnolencia de ligera a moderada. En raras ocasiones se han notificado efectos adversos generales tales como urticaria, erupción cutánea, reacciones alérgicas graves (shock anafiláctico), sensibilidad a la luz, sudoración excesiva, escalofríos, sequedad de boca, nariz y garganta.

Otros efectos adversos que pueden presentarse con el uso de antihistamínicos son los siguientes: reacciones cardiovasculares, reacciones en la sangre, reacciones del sistema nervioso, reacciones gastrointestinales, reacciones genitourinarias y reacciones respiratorias.

5. Conservación de Polaramine

Mantener este medicamento fuera de la vista y del alcance de los niños.

No conservar a temperatura superior a 30ºC.

No utilice este medicamento después de la fecha de caducidad que aparece en el envase después de CAD. La fecha de caducidad es el último día del mes que se indica.

Los medicamentos no se deben tirar por los desagües ni a la basura. Deposite los envases y los medicamentos que no necesita en el Punto SIGRE de la farmacia. En caso de duda pregunte a su farmacéutico cómo deshacerse de los envases y de los medicamentos que no necesita. De esta forma, ayudará a proteger el medio ambiente.

6. Contenido del envase e información adicional

Composición de Polaramine

  • El principio activo es maleato de dexclorfeniramina. Cada ml de jarabe contiene 0,4 mg de maleato de dexclorfeniramina.
  • Los demás componentes son etanol, sacarosa, citrato de sodio dihidrato, cloruro de sodio, sorbitol, metilparabeno, propilparabeno, mentol, sabor a albaricoque, sabor a naranja, colorante Ponceau 4R (E-124) y agua purificada.
