1. Qué es Muntel y para qué se utiliza

El principio activo de Muntel es levocetirizina dihidrocloruro. Muntel es un medicamento antialérgico.

Para el tratamiento de los signos de enfermedad (síntomas) asociados a:

  • Rinitis alérgica (incluyendo la rinitis alérgica persistente).
  • Urticaria.

2. Qué necesita saber antes de empezar a tomar Muntel

No tome Muntel:

  • Si es alérgico a levocetirizina dihidrocloruro, a cetirizina, a hidroxicina o a

alguno de los demás componentes de este medicamento (incluidos en la sección 6).

  • Si padece un deterioro grave de la función renal (insuficiencia renal grave con un aclaramiento de creatinina inferior a 10 ml/min).

Advertencias y precauciones

Consulte a su médico o farmacéutico antes de empezar a tomar Muntel.

  • Si tiene algún factor condicionante que le incapacite para vaciar la vejiga urinaria (como médula espinal dañada o aumento del tamaño de la próstata) por favor, informe a su médico.
  • Si es epiléptico o tiene riesgo de convulsiones, por favor consulte a su médico ya que el uso de Muntel puede agravar las crisis.

Niños

Toma de Muntel con otros medicamentos

Informe a su médico o farmacéutico si está utilizando, ha utilizado recientemente o pudiera tener que utilizar cualquier otro medicamento.

Toma de Muntel con alimentos, bebidas y alcohol

Se recomienda precaución si se toma Muntel y al mismo tiempo alcohol u otros agentes que actúen en el cerebro.

En pacientes sensibles, la toma simultánea de Muntel con alcohol u otros agentes que actúen en el cerebro puede causar una disminución adicional de la capacidad de atención y disminuir el rendimiento.

Se puede tomar Muntel tanto en ayunas como con los alimentos.

Embarazo, lactancia y fertilidad

Si está embarazada o en periodo de lactancia, cree que podría estar embarazada o tiene intención de quedarse embarazada, consulte a su médico o farmacéutico antes de utilizar este medicamento.

Conducción y uso de máquinas

Algunos pacientes tratados con Muntel pueden experimentar somnolencia/adormecimiento, cansancio y agotamiento.

Tenga cuidado si va a conducir o utilizar maquinaria hasta saber cómo puede afectarle esta medicación. De todos modos, en pruebas especiales realizadas en personas sanas no se han detectado alteraciones de la atención, de la capacidad de reacción y de la habilidad para conducir tras la toma de levocetirizina a la dosis recomendada.

Muntel contiene lactosa

Este medicamento contiene lactosa. Si su médico le ha indicado que padece una intolerancia a ciertos azúcares, consulte con él antes de tomar este medicamento.

3. Cómo tomar Muntel

Siga exactamente las instrucciones de administración de este medicamento indicadas por su médico. En caso de duda, consulte de nuevo a su médico o farmacéutico.

La dosis recomendada para adultos y niños a partir de 6 años es de un comprimido diario.

Uso en poblaciones especiales

Pacientes con insuficiencia renal

Los pacientes con insuficiencia renal deben recibir una dosis menor. La dosis la decidirá su médico.

Los pacientes que tienen insuficiencia renal grave no deben tomar este medicamento.

Pacientes con insuficiencia hepática

En pacientes con únicamente insuficiencia hepática no es necesario ajustar la dosis que deben tomar.

Sin embargo, los pacientes con insuficiencia renal y hepática, sí deben tomar una dosis inferior. La dosis a tomar la determinará su médico.

Pacientes a partir de 65 años de edad

En pacientes de edad avanzada no es necesario ajustar la dosis si su función renal es normal.

Uso en niños

No se recomienda el uso de Muntel en niños menores de 6 años ya que no permite adaptar la dosis adecuadamente.

¿Cómo y cuándo debería tomar Muntel?

Sólo para uso oral.

Los comprimidos de Muntel se deberán tragar enteros con agua y pueden tomarse tanto en ayunas como con alimentos.

¿Cuánto tiempo debe durar su tratamiento con Muntel?

La duración del tratamiento depende del tipo, duración y curso de los síntomas y es su médico quien debe determinarlo.

Si toma más Muntel del que debe

Si toma más Muntel del que debe, en adultos puede causar somnolencia. En niños puede dar inicialmente agitación e inquietud seguido por somnolencia.

En caso de sobredosis o ingestión accidental de Muntel, consulte inmediatamente a su médico o farmacéutico o llame al Servicio de Información Toxicológica. Teléfono 915 62 04 20.

Si olvidó tomar Muntel

Si ha olvidado tomar Muntel, o si toma una dosis inferior a la prescrita por su médico, no tome una dosis doble para compensar las dosis olvidadas. Continúe tomando su dosis normal cuando le toque.

Si interrumpe el tratamiento con Muntel

La finalización del tratamiento no debe tener efectos negativos. Sin embargo, raramente puede aparecer prurito (picor intenso) al dejar de tomar Muntel, incluso cuando estos síntomas no estaban presentes al inicio del tratamiento.Los síntomas pueden desaparecer espontáneamente. En algunos casos los síntomas pueden ser intensos y requerir que se reinicie el tratamiento. Los síntomas suelen desaparecer cuando se reinicia el tratamiento.

4. Posibles efectos adversos

Al igual que todos los medicamentos, este medicamento puede producir efectos adversos, aunque no todas las personas los sufran.

Frecuentes: pueden afectar hasta 1 de cada 10 personas

Sequedad de boca, dolor de cabeza, cansancio y somnolencia.

Poco frecuentes: pueden afectar hasta 1 de cada 100 personas

Agotamiento y dolor abdominal.

También se han descrito otros efectos adversos como palpitaciones, aumento de la frecuencia cardíaca (taquicardia), convulsiones, hormigueos,

mareos, síncope, temblor, disgeusia (alteración del sentido del gusto), sensación de rotación o

movimiento, alteraciones visuales, visión borrosa, crisis oculógira (movimientos circulares incontrolados de los ojos), dolor o dificultad al orinar, incapacidad para orinar, edema, prurito (picor) (que también puede aparecer después de dejar de tomar Muntel), sarpullido, urticaria (hinchazón, enrojecimiento y picor de la piel), erupción en la piel, respiración entrecortada, incremento de peso, dolor muscular, dolor articular,comportamiento agresivo o agitado, alucinación, depresión, insomnio, pensamientos recurrentes o preocupación con el suicidio, pesadillas, hepatitis, función hepática anormal, vómitos, aumento del apetito, náuseas y diarrea.

Ante los primeros signos de reacción de hipersensibilidad, deje de tomar Muntel y informe a su médico inmediatamente. Los síntomas de la reacción de hipersensibilidad pueden incluir: hinchazón de la boca, lengua, cara y/o cuello, dificultad para respirar o tragar (opresión en el pecho o pitidos), habones, disminución de la presión sanguínea repentina que puede derivar en colapso o estado de shock, los cuales pueden ser fatales.

5. Conservación de Muntel

Mantener este medicamento fuera de la vista y del alcance de los niños.

No utilice este medicamento después de la fecha de caducidad que aparece en el envase después de CAD. La fecha de caducidad es el último día del mes que se indica.

Este medicamento no requiere condiciones especiales de conservación.

Los medicamentos no se deben tirar por los desagües ni a la basura. Deposite los envases y los

medicamentos que no necesita en el Punto SIGRE de la farmacia. En caso de duda pregunte a su farmacéutico cómo deshacerse de los envases y de los medicamentos que no necesita. De esta forma ayudará a proteger el medio ambiente.

6. Contenido del envase e información adicional

Composición de Muntel

El principio activo es levocetirizina dihidrocloruro. Cada comprimido recubierto con película contiene 5 mg de levocetirizina dihidrocloruro.

Los demás componentes son lactosa monohidrato, celulosa microcristalina, sílice coloidal anhidra, estearato de magnesio, hipromelosa (E464), dióxido de titanio (E171) y macrogol 400.

Aspecto del producto y contenido del envase

Los comprimidos recubiertos con película de Muntel son de color blanco blanquecino, ovalados y con la marca “Y” grabada en una de sus caras. Cada envase contiene 20 comprimidos.
