1. What is Bimotil Infantil and what is it used for
The name of this medicine is Bimotil 6.9 g powder for oral solution.
It is a laxative for the treatment of chronic constipation in children from 1 to 11 years old, and for the treatment of severe constipation (called fecal impaction) in children from 5 to 11 years old.
Bimotil Infantil helps your child have a proper bowel movement, even if the constipation is long-lasting.
2. What you need to know before starting to give Bimotil Infantil
Do not give Bimotil Infantil to your child if their doctor has told them that they have:
- an allergy to the active ingredients of Bimotil Infantil or to any of the other components of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- an intestinal blockage (intestinal obstruction, paralytic ileus),
- perforation of the intestinal wall,
- severe inflammatory bowel disease, such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, or toxic megacolon.
If your child has a heart or kidney problem, a swallowing reflex disorder, or esophagitis due to reflux (heartburn caused by the backflow of stomach contents into the esophagus), they should consult their doctor before starting to take Bimotil Infantil.
