1. Qué es Wellvone y para qué se utiliza

Wellvone se utiliza para tratar una infección pulmonar llamada neumonía por Pneumocystis(PCP) en personas que no pueden tomar cotrimoxazol (asociación de trimetroprim y sulfametoxazol).

Esta enfermedad está causada por un organismo llamado Pneumocystis jiroveci(que solía llamarse Pneumocystis carinii).

El principio activo de Wellvone es atovacuona. Wellvone pertenece a un grupo de medicamentos antiparasitarios conocidos como antiprotozoarios.

2. Qué necesita saber antes de empezar a tomar Wellvone

Notome Wellvone

Tenga especial cuidado con Wellvone

Antes de que empiece a tomar Wellvone su médico necesita saber:

  • si padece alguna enfermedad renalo hepática
  • si tiene diarreaespecialmente al iniciar el tratamiento. La diarrea reduce la absorción corporal de Wellvone, de forma que el tratamiento puede no ser efectivo
  • si es mayor de 65 años.

Embarazo, lactancia y fertilidad

Otros medicamentos y Wellvone

Conducción y uso de máquinas

No se espera que su capacidad para conducir o usar maquinaria se vea afectada mientras esté tomando Wellvone.

Wellvone contiene alcohol bencílico

Este medicamento contiene 50,66 mg de alcohol bencílico en cada 5 ml.

El alcohol bencílico puede provocar reacciones alérgicas.

El alcohol bencílico se ha relacionado con el riesgo de efectos adversos graves que incluyen problemas respiratorios ("síndrome de jadeo") en niños.

No administre este medicamento a su recién nacido (hasta de 4 semanas de edad) a menos que se lo haya recomendado su médico.

Este medicamento no se debe utilizar durante más de una semana en niños menores de 3 años de edad a menos que se lo indique su médico o farmacéutico.

Consulte a su médico o farmacéutico si está embarazada o en periodo de lactancia o si tiene enfermedades de hígado o riñón. Esto es debido a que se pueden acumular grandes cantidades de alcohol bencílico en su organismo y provocar efectos adversos (acidosis metabólica).

Wellvone contiene sodio

Este medicamento contiene menos de 1 mmol de sodio (23 mg) por cada 5 ml; esto es, esencialmente “exento de sodio”.

3. Cómo tomar Wellvone

Siga exactamente las instrucciones de administración deeste medicamentoindicadas por su médico o farmacéutico. En caso de duda, consulte de nuevo a su médico o farmacéutico.

Agitar bien el frasco antes de su uso.

No diluir Wellvone.

Tome siempre Wellvone con comida -preferiblemente con alimentos que tengan elevada cantidad de grasas. Esto aumentará la cantidad de Wellvone absorbido y hará más eficaz su tratamiento.

Cuánto tomar

La dosis recomendadade Wellvone en adultoses una cucharada de 5 ml (que contiene 750 mg de atovacuona), dos veces al día durante 21 días. Utilice la cuchara de 5 ml incluida. Lave la cuchara con agua limpia después de tomar cada dosis.

Tomar una dosis en la mañana y otra por la tarde-noche.

Si toma más Wellvone del que debe

Póngase en contacto con su médico o farmacéutico para que le asesoren o llame al Servicio de Información Toxicológica, teléfono 91 562 04 20. Si es posible, muéstreles el envase de Wellvone.

Si olvidó tomar Wellvone

Si olvidó tomar una dosis de Wellvone, tome la siguiente tan pronto como lo recuerde (con comida) y continúe el tratamiento como antes. No tome una dosis doble para compensar las dosis olvidadas.

Si interrumpe el tratamiento con Wellvone

Tome Wellvone durante el tiempo recomendado por su médico. No deje de tomarlo a menos que su médico se lo indique - incluso si se siente mejor. Si no completa la duración del tratamiento, la infección puede reaparecer.

4. Posibles efectos adversos

Al igual que todos los medicamentos, este medicamento puede producir efectos adversos, aunque no todas las personas los sufran.

Efectos adversos frecuentes(pueden afectar hasta 1 de cada 10personas)

  • diarrea
  • vómitos
  • dolor de cabeza
  • problemas de sueño (insomnio)
  • temperatura alta (fiebre)
  • reacciones alérgicas, en ocasiones graves. Incluyen los siguientes síntomas:
    • sibilancias repentinas, opresión en el pecho o la garganta, dificultad respiratoria
    • hinchazón de párpados, cara, labios, lengua u otras partes del cuerpo
  • habón urticarial (urticaria).

Otros efectos adversos frecuentes que pueden aparecer en los análisis de sangreson:

  • niveles bajos de sodio en sangre (hiponatremia)
  • aumento de los niveles de enzimas hepáticas
  • reducción del número de glóbulos rojos en sangre (anemia), que puede provocar cansancio, dolores de cabeza y dificultad para respirar

Otros efectos adversos

Se han notificado otros efectos adversos en un número muy pequeño de personas, con frecuencia no conocida:

  • erupción cutánea, que puede formar ampollas que parecen pequeñas dianas (punto central oscuro rodeado por un área más pálida, con un anillo oscuro alrededor del borde) (eritema multiforme)
  • erupción diseminada con ampollas y descamación de la piel, especialmente alrededor de la boca, nariz, ojos y los genitales (síndrome de Stevens–Johnson).

5. Conservación de Wellvone

Mantener este medicamento fuera de la vista y del alcance de los niños.

No utilice este medicamento después de la fecha de caducidad que aparece en la etiqueta del frasco. Una vez abierta, la suspensión puede conservarse hasta un máximo de 21 días.

No conservar a temperatura superior a 25 °C. No congelar.

Los medicamentos no se deben tirar por los desagües ni a la basura. Deposite los envases y los medicamentos que no necesita en el Punto SIGRE de la farmacia. En caso de duda pregunte a su farmacéutico cómo deshacerse de los envases y de los medicamentos que no necesita. De esta forma, ayudará a proteger el medio ambiente.

6. Contenido del envase e información adicional

Composición de Wellvone

Cada cucharada de 5 ml de suspensión de Wellvone contiene 750 mg de principio activo, atovacuona (1 ml de Wellvone contiene 150 mg de atovacuona). Los demás componentes son alcohol bencílico (E1519), goma xantán, poloxámero 188, sacarina sódica, agua purificada y aroma de tutti frutti (aceite de naranja dulce, aceite de naranja concentrado, propilenglicol (E1520), alcohol bencílico (E1519), vainillina, aldehído acético, acetato de amilo y butirato de etilo).
