1. Qué es Vivotif y para qué se utiliza

Vivotif es una vacuna oral que estimula la respuesta inmunológica contra un tipo de bacteria

denominada SalmonellaTyphi, que provoca la fiebre tifoidea. Se utiliza para la protección contra la fiebre tifoidea en adultos y niños a partir de los 5 años de edad.

Cómo actúa Vivotif

Las bacterias contenidas en Vivotif han sido modificadas de tal modo que aunque no puedan

provocar fiebre tifoidea, todavía estimulen el sistema de defensas naturales del organismo (el sistema inmunológico) para combatir a las bacterias que provocan la fiebre tifoidea.

Otros tipos de enfermedades causadas porSalmonella

Hay muchos otros tipos de bacterias del grupo Salmonella. La mayoría de ellas provocan

enfermedades con diarrea, que son muy distintas de la fiebre tifoidea. Además son menos graves. Vivotif no puede protegerlo contra las infecciones provocadas por estos otros tipos de Salmonella.

2. Qué necesita saber antes de empezar a tomar Vivotif

No tome Vivotif:

  • si es alérgico (hipersensible) a la SalmonellaTyphi Ty21 o a alguno de los demás componentes de esta vacuna (incluidos en la sección 6).
  • si ha tenido reacciones alérgicas anteriormente al tomar Vivotif.
  • si su sistema inmunológico está debilitado por cualquier motivo; por ejemplo, si ha tenido baja inmunidad ante las infecciones desde el nacimiento. También puede tener una inmunidad baja por ciertas infecciones o por tratamientos que deprimen el sistema inmunológico, como por ejemplo corticosteroides en dosis altas, medicamentos oncológicos o radioterapia.
  • si en este momento tiene fiebre alta (más de 38,5º C) o una enfermedad intestinal (por ejemplo diarrea), no tome Vivotif hasta que no se haya recuperado

Advertencias y precauciones

No todas las personas que toman un ciclo completo de Vivotif estarán totalmente protegidas contra la fiebre tifoidea. Es importante seguir los consejos sobre higiene y tener cuidado con los alimentos y el agua que se consumen en áreas afectadas por la fiebre tifoidea.

Niños

No administrar esta vacuna a niños menores de 5 años, ya que la cápsula no es adecuada para este grupo de edad

Uso de Vivotif con otros medicamentos

Informe a su médico, farmacéutico o enfermero si está tomando, ha tomado recientemente o podría tener que tomar cualquier otro medicamento o vacuna. Esto incluye los medicamentos deventa sin receta, y también los medicamentos a base de hierbas. Esto es debido a que Vivotif puede afectar el modo en que actúan otros medicamentos y vacunas.

En particular, informe a su médico, farmacéutico o enfermero si está tomando:

  • antibióticos – Vivotif puede no actuar si se lo toma mientras también se están tomando antibióticos. No tome Vivotif hasta que no hayan transcurrido como mínimo 3 días después de la última dosis de antibiótico.
  • medicamentos para prevenir la malaria – no empiece a administrar estos medicamentos hasta que no hayan transcurrido 3 días después de la última dosis de Vivotif, salvo que su médico, farmacéutico o enfermero le indique lo contrario.

Si cualquiera de las circunstancias anteriores le afectan a usted, informe a su médico, farmacéutico o enfermero antes de tomar Vivotif.

Uso de Vivotif con alimentos y bebidas

Vivotif se toma con el estómago vacío, y como mínimo una hora antes de la comida siguiente.

Embarazo, lactancia y fertilidad

Si está embarazada o en periodo de lactancia, cree que podría estar embarazada o tiene intención de quedarse embarazada, consulte a su médico o farmacéutico antes de utilizar este medicamento.

Conducción y uso de máquinas

No se ha observado que Vivotif afecte la capacidad para conducir y usar máquinas. Sin embargo, no conduzca ni use máquinas si no se siente bien.

Vivotif contiene lactosa y sacarosa

Si su médico le ha informado que tiene intolerancia a ciertos azúcares, consulte con su médico antes de tomar este medicamento..

3. Cómo tomar Vivotif

Siga exactamente las instrucciones de administración de esta vacuna indicadas por su médico,

farmacéutico o enfermero. En caso de duda, consulte de nuevo a su médico, farmacéutico o enfermero.

Se debe inspeccionar el blíster que contiene las cápsulas de la vacuna para verificar que la lámina de aluminio y las cápsulas estén intactas.

Cuánto y cuándo tomar

La dosis recomendada es de tres cápsulas. Se toma una cápsula a días alternos.

  • Tome la primera cápsula un día seleccionado. Este es el día 1.
  • Tome la segunda cápsula el día 3.
  • Tome la tercera cápsula el día 5.

Cómo tomar las cápsulas

  • Tome las cápsulas con el estómago vacío, y como mínimo una hora antes de la comida siguiente.
  • No triture ni mastique las cápsulas.
  • Trague las cápsulas con agua fría o tíbia (a no más de 37°C).
  • Tráguelas lo más rápido posible después de ponerlas en la boca.

La protección contra la fiebre tifoidea comienza entre siete y diez días después de tomar el ciclo de tres cápsulas. Su médico, farmacéutico o enfermero le indicará con qué anticipación previa al viaje debe administrar el ciclo de Vivotif.

Transcurridos tres años, puede que deba recibir Vivotif nuevamente, si sigue visitando áreas donde hay fiebre tifoidea. En este caso, consulte con su médico, farmacéutico o enfermero.

Si toma más Vivotif del que debe

Si por accidente toma las tres dosis en una sola vez, informe a su médico, farmacéutico o enfermero. Es difícil que se ponga enfermo, pero podría no estar bien protegido contra la fiebre tifoidea.

Si olvidó tomar Vivotif

Si olvidó una dosis, tómela tan pronto como lo recuerde. Luego tome la siguiente dosis alrededor de 48 horas después.

4. Posibles efectos adversos

Al igual que todas las vacunas, esta vacuna puede producir efectos adversos, aunque no todas las personas los sufran.

  • reacciones alérgicas graves que provocan hinchazón del rostro o la garganta y falta de aire, y/o un descenso de la tenasión arterial y desmayo.

Otros efectos adversos:

  • dolor de estómago,
  • sentirse o estar enfermo,
  • diarrea,
  • fiebre,

5. Conservación de Vivotif

Mantener esta vacuna fuera de la vista y del alcance de los niños.

No utilice Vivotif después de la fecha de caducidad que aparece en la etiqueta. La fecha de caducidad es el último día del mes que se indica.

Conservar en nevera (entre 2?C y 8?C)

Conservar el blíster en el embalaje exterior para protegerlo de la luz.

No utilice esta vacuna si observa que el blíster o las cápsulas no están intactos.

Los medicamentos no se deben tirar por los desagües. Pregunte a su farmacéutico cómo deshacerse de los envases y de los medicamentos que ya no necesita. De esta forma, ayudará a proteger el medio ambiente.

6. Contenido del envase e información adicional

Composición de Vivotif

  • Cada cápsula contiene como mínimo 2 x 109 células viables de SalmonellaTyphi Ty21a.
  • Los demás componentes son lactosa anhidra, sacarosa, hidrolisato ácido de caseína, ácido ascórbico (E300), estearato de magnesio (E470), células inactivadas de SalmonellaTyphi Ty21a. Exterior de la cápsula: gelatina, dióxido de titanio (E171), eritrosina (E127), óxido de hierro amarillo (E172) y óxido de hierro rojo (E172). Recubrimiento de la cápsula: ftalato de hidroxipropilmetilcelulosa, etilenglicol y ftalato de dietilo.

Aspecto del producto y contenido del envase

El envase contiene un blíster con tres cápsulas con recubrimiento entérico de Vivotif. Las cápsulas son bicolores blanco y salmón.
