1. Qué es VIRGAN y para qué se utiliza

Virgan es un gel oftálmico que contiene un agente antiviral denominado ganciclovir.

Virgan está indicado en el tratamiento de algunas infecciones víricas superficiales del ojo (cornea).

2. Qué necesita saber antes de empezar a usar VIRGAN

No use Virgan

  • si es alérgico al ganciclovir, aciclovir o a cualquiera de los demás componentes de este medicamento.
  • durante el embarazo o lactancia, a menos que su médico se lo indique.
  • en hombres y mujeres en edad de procrear que no usen un método de control de la natalidad.

Además a los varones en tratamiento con Virgan se les recomienda utilizar métodos anticonceptivos (preservativo) durante el tratamiento y tres meses después de finalizar el mismo. En cuanto a las mujeres que reciban tratamiento con Virgan, se recomienda el uso de métodos anticonceptivos durante el tratamiento y hasta 6 meses después de finalizar el mismo.

Advertencias y precauciones

Consulte a su médico o farmacéutico antes de empezar a usar Virgan.

  • No ingerir.
  • Evitar tocar el ojo y el párpado con la punta del gotero.
  • Usuarios de lentes de contacto: Evitar el contacto con las lentes de contacto. (ver también Virgan contiene cloruro de benzalconio),

Niños

  • En ausencia de estudios específicos, no se recomienda el uso en menores de 18 años.

Uso de Virgan con otros medicamentos

Si utiliza otro medicamento tópico oftálmico, debe:

  1. aplicarse el otro medicamento oftálmico.
  2. esperar 15 minutos.
  3. Aplicar después Virgan.

Comunique a su médico o farmacéutico si está utilizando, ha utilizado recientemente o podría tener que utilizar cualquier otro medicamento.

Embarazo, lactancia y fertilidad

No se recomienda el uso de Virgan durante el embarazo y la lactancia, a menos que su médico se lo indique. Ver también sección 2: No use Virgan.

Conducción y uso de máquinas

Virgan contiene cloruro de benzalconio

Este medicamento contiene 2,625 microgramos de cloruro de benzalconio en cada gota de gel que equivale a 0,075 mg/g.

El cloruro de benzalconio se puede absorber por las lentes de contacto blandas alterando su color. Retirar las lentes de contacto antes usar este medicamento y esperar al 15 minutos antes de volver a colocarlas.

El cloruro de benzalconio puede también producir irritación ocular, especialmente en ojos secos u otras enfermedades de la córnea (capa transparente de la zona frontal del ojo). Consulte con su médico si siente sensación extraña , escozor o dolor en el ojo después usar este medicamento,

3. Cómo usar VIRGAN

Dosificación

Siga exactamente las instrucciones de administración de este medicamento indicadas por su médico o farmacéutico. En caso de duda, consulte de nuevo a su médico o farmacéutico.

La dosis recomendada es una gota de 3 a 5 veces al día.

Uso en niños

No se recomienda el uso de este gel oftálmico en menores de 18 años.

Método de administración

Virgan se debe administrar únicamente en el ojo afectado (vía oftálmica),:1. Lávese las manos antes de cada aplicación.

  1. Apriete suavemente el tubo para que caiga la gota en el ojo afectado, mientras mira hacia arriba y tira ligeramente del párpado inferior hacia abajo.
  2. Tape el tubo.

Duración del tratamiento

En general el tratamiento no debe exceder los 21 días.

Si usa más Virgan del que debe

Continúe el tratamiento tal como le ha indicado su médico y consulte con su médico o farmacéutico. En caso de sobredosis o ingestión accidental, consulte inmediatamente a su médico o farmacéutico, acuda a un centro médico o llame al Servicio de Información Toxicológica, teléfono 91 562 04 20, indicando el medicamento y la cantidad ingerida.

Si olvidó usar Virgan

No use una dosis doble para compensar las dosis olvidadas.

4. Posibles efectos adversos

Trastornos oculares:

5. Conservación de VIRGAN

Mantener este medicamento fuera de la vista y del alcance de los niños.

No utilice este medicamento después de la fecha de caducidad que aparece en el envase después de CAD.La fecha de caducidad es el último día del mes que se indica.

No use Virgan más de 4 semanas después de la primera apertura.

Los medicamentos no se deben tirar por los desagües ni a la basura. Deposite los envases y los medicamentos que no necesita en el Punto SIGRE de su farmacia habitual. Pregunte a su farmacéutico cómo deshacerse de los envases y de los medicamentos que no necesita. De esta forma, ayudará a proteger el medio ambiente.
