Gibiter Easyhaler is an inhaler used for the treatment of asthma in adults and adolescents between 12 and 17 years of age. How to Use the Easyhaler Inhaler

About Your Easyhaler Inhaler

Gibiter Easyhaler may be different from other inhalers you may have used in the past. Therefore, it is very important that you use it correctly, as incorrect use can make you not receive the correct amount of medication. This could make you feel very ill or that your asthma and COPD are not being treated properly.

Your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist will show you how to use your inhaler correctly. Make sure you understand the correct way to use the inhaler. If you are unsure, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. As with all inhalers, caregivers should ensure that children who have been prescribed Gibiter Easyhaler perform the inhalation technique correctly, as described below. You can also watch the instruction video at https://cima.aemps.es/info/78803.

When You First Acquire Your Easyhaler Inhaler

The inhaler comes in an aluminum bag. Do not open the aluminum bag until you are ready to start using the medication, as this helps keep the powder dry in the inhaler.

When you are ready to start treatment, open the bag and note the date, e.g., on your calendar.

Use the inhaler within 4 months of removing it from the aluminum bag.

HOW TO USE IT CORRECTLY

Step 1:SHAKE

  • Remove the protective cap from the powder
  • Shake the inhaler 3 to 5 times, holding it in a vertical position

SHAKE x 3-5

Hand holding a white and red inhaler with visible mouthpiece and blue arrows indicating direction of pressure

Important Points to Remember

  • It is essential to keep the inhaler in a vertical position
  • If you accidentally trigger it while shaking, empty the powder from the mouthpiece as shown below

Step 2: ACTUATE

  • Continue holding the inhaler in a vertical position with your index finger and thumb
  • Press until you hear a "click", and then release until you hear a new "click". This releases a dose
  • Actuate only once

ACTUATE x 1

Hand pressing white and red inhaler with visible mouthpiece, purple arrow indicates direction of pressure

Important Points to Remember

  • Do not actuate the inhaler if the cap is still on
  • Actuate only once
  • If you accidentally actuate it more than once, empty the powder from the mouthpiece, see below
  • Actuate to release the dose before inhaling, not at the same time
  • Keep the inhaler in a vertical position while actuating and while inhaling the dose. If you tilt it, the powder may fall before you can inhale it

Step 3: INHALE

  • Continue holding the inhaler in a vertical position
  • Exhale normally
  • Place the mouthpiece in your mouth, between your teeth, and close your lips firmly around the mouthpiece
  • Inhale energetically and deeply
  • Remove the inhaler from your mouth and exhale normally

INHALE

Patient inhaling medication with white and red nasal inhaler, arrow indicates direction of flow

Important Points to Remember

  • Make sure the mouthpiece is completely placed inside your mouth, so the medication can reach your lungs
  • Make sure your lips are firmly closed around the mouthpiece
  • Do not exhale into the inhaler. This is important: it could clog the inhaler. If you exhale into the inhaler, empty the powder from the mouthpiece, see below

If You Need to Take Another Inhalation, Repeat Steps 1-3 Shake-Actuate-Inhale.

After Using the Inhaler:

  • Put the cap back on the mouthpiece. This will prevent the inhaler from being triggered accidentally.
  • After taking the dose, rinse your mouth with water and spit it out.

How to Empty the Powder from the Mouthpiece

If you accidentally trigger the inhaler, or if you have triggered it more than once, or if you have exhaled into the inhaler, empty the mouthpiece.

  • Gently tap the mouthpiece on a surface or on the palm of your hand to empty the powder.
  • Then, repeat the Shake-Actuate-Inhale steps.

Hand holding a medication applicator with red tip pressing on skin with arrow indicating direction downwards

Cleaning the Inhaler

Keep your inhaler dry and clean. If necessary, you can clean the mouthpiece of the inhaler with a dry cloth or handkerchief. Do not use water: the powder inside the inhaler is sensitive to moisture.

Using the Inhaler with a Protective Cover

You can use a protective cover with your Easyhaler inhaler. This can help improve the durability of the product. The first time you insert the inhaler into the protective cover, make sure the inhaler has the cap on, as this prevents it from being triggered accidentally. You can use the inhaler without removing it from the protective cover.

Follow the same instructions as above, 1. Shake – 2. Actuate – 3. Inhale.

Remember:

  • Keep the inhaler in a vertical position when actuating
  • Put the cap on after taking the dose, as this will prevent the inhaler from being triggered accidentally.

Hand holding a white and gray nasal inhaler with finger pressing the red top part of the device

When to Start Using a New Inhaler

The dose counter shows the number of doses left. The counter moves every 5 applications. When the dose counter starts to turn red, there are 20 doses left.

If you do not yet have a new Easyhaler inhaler, contact your doctor for a new prescription. When the counter reaches 0 (zero), you must replace the inhaler.

If you have a protective cover, you can keep it and insert your new inhaler into it.

White and red inhaler device with visible dose counter and enlarged red circle

Remember

  • 1. Shake – 2. Actuate – 3. Inhale.
  • After taking the dose, rinse your mouth with water and spit it out.
