1. What is Heparin-Hasco Forte and what is it used for

Heparin-Hasco Forte contains heparin, which acts as an anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory, and
anti-edematous agent.
The medicine is intended for topical use on the skin.
Heparin-Hasco Forte is indicated for supportive treatment of:

  • superficial vein diseases: ∙phlebitis, ∙thrombophlebitis, ∙varicose veins of the lower limbs,
  • edemas, bruises, subcutaneous hematomas.

2. Important information before using Heparin-Hasco Forte

When not to use Heparin-Hasco Forte:

  • if you are allergic to heparin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6),
  • on open, bleeding, and oozing wounds, mucous membranes, and eye areas, skin lesions of unknown origin, infected skin,
  • due to the presence of methyl and propyl parahydroxybenzoate, the medicine should not be used in people with paraben allergy.

Warnings and precautions

Before starting to use Heparin-Hasco Forte, you should discuss it with your doctor, pharmacist,
or nurse.
You should be cautious in patients with confirmed bleeding tendency.
Prolonged use of the medicine may cause skin hypersensitivity reactions in some patients.

If skin changes occur (redness, rash, itching, burning, erythema), the medicine should be
discontinued.
During the use of the medicine, you should monitor the appearance of the skin.

Children

Heparin-Hasco Forte should not be used in children due to the lack of clinical trials regarding the
efficacy and safety of use in this patient group.

Heparin-Hasco Forte and other medicines

You should tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines you are taking now or have taken
recently, as well as about medicines you plan to take.
Heparin used topically in the form of a gel is only slightly absorbed into the bloodstream. Due to the
low concentration of heparin in the serum, interactions with other medicines are insignificant.
Only in patients with bleeding tendency and in patients taking anticoagulant medicines, prolonged use
of the medicine on large surfaces may enhance the anticoagulant effect, increasing the risk of bleeding.
In such a case, it is recommended to monitor blood coagulation parameters.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and fertility

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby,
you should ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Heparin does not penetrate the placenta and into breast milk, however, during pregnancy and breastfeeding,
the medicine should be used with caution and only in cases of absolute necessity.

Driving and using machines

There are no data on the effect of the medicine on the ability to drive and use machines.
Heparin-Hasco Forte contains propylene glycol,which may cause skin irritation.

Heparin-Hasco Forte contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate and propyl parahydroxybenzoate

parahydroxybenzoate,which may cause allergic reactions (possible late reactions).

3. How to use Heparin-Hasco Forte

This medicine should always be used exactly as described in the patient leaflet or as advised by
your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse. If you are unsure, you should ask your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.
The medicine is intended for topical use on the skin.
It is recommended to apply a thin layer of the gel (a strip of 3 cm to 10 cm) evenly to the affected area,
2 to 3 times a day.
After applying the medicine, you should wash your hands thoroughly.

Use in children

The medicine should not be used in children due to the lack of clinical trials regarding the efficacy and
safety of use in this patient group.

In the case of topical use of heparin-containing medicines, no cases of overdose are known. However,
if such a case occurs, you should contact your doctor.

Missing a dose of Heparin-Hasco Forte

You should not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

5. How to store Heparin-Hasco Forte

Store in the original package, at a temperature below 25°C.
The medicine should be kept out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the packaging. The expiry date refers to the last
day of the month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste containers. You should ask your
pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. This will help protect the environment.

What Heparin-Hasco Forte contains

  • The active substance of the medicine is sodium heparin. One gram of the gel contains 1000 IU of sodium heparin.
  • The other ingredients (excipients) are: carbomer 5984, sodium hydroxide 30%, propylene glycol, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, disodium edetate, polysorbate 20, rose fragrance AR 0287, purified water.
