1. What Efectin ER is and what it is used for

Efectin ER contains the active substance venlafaxine.

Efectin ER is an antidepressant that belongs to a group of medicines called serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs).

SNRIs are used to treat depression and other conditions such as anxiety disorders.

Efectin ER is used to treat depression in adults.

Efectin ER is also used to treat generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and panic disorder in adults.

2. Before you take Efectin ER

Do not take Efectin ER:

  • If you are allergic to venlafaxine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
  • If you are taking, or have taken within the last 14 days, any medicines known as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), which are used to treat depression or Parkinson's disease.

Warnings and precautions

Before taking Efectin ER, tell your doctor or pharmacist if:

  • You have any other medical conditions, such as heart problems, high blood pressure, or a history of seizures.
  • You are taking any other medicines, including those that can affect the heart rhythm, such as certain antibiotics or antipsychotics.

Efectin ER may cause side effects, such as dizziness, sleepiness, or increased risk of bleeding.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you experience any side effects, including those not listed in this leaflet.

3. How to take Efectin ER

Take Efectin ER exactly as your doctor has told you.

The usual starting dose is 75 mg per day.

Take Efectin ER with food.

Do not stop taking Efectin ER without talking to your doctor first.

If you take more Efectin ER than you should

If you take more Efectin ER than you should, talk to a doctor or go to a hospital straight away.

If you forget to take Efectin ER

If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember.

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Efectin ER can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Stop taking Efectin ER and tell your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • Allergic reactions, such as rash, itching, or difficulty breathing.
  • Seizures or fits.
  • Changes in heart rhythm or rate.
  • Increased risk of bleeding or bruising.

Common side effects include:

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness.
  • Headache.
  • Insomnia or sleepiness.
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Constipation or diarrhea.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Sweating.
  • Increased blood pressure.

5. How to store Efectin ER

Keep Efectin ER out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use Efectin ER after the expiry date stated on the pack.

Store Efectin ER in a cool, dry place.

Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.

6. Contents of the pack and other information

Efectin ER contains the active substance venlafaxine.

The other ingredients are:

  • Microcrystalline cellulose.
  • Ethylcellulose.
  • Hypromellose.
  • Talc.
  • Gelatin.
  • Iron oxide.
  • Titanium dioxide.

Efectin ER is available in packs of 7, 10, 14, 20, 28, 30, 50, 56, 60, 98, and 100 capsules.
