DERMOPANTEN, 50 mg/g, ointment

You should carefully read the contents of the leaflet before using the medicine, as it contains
important information for the patient.
This medicine should always be used exactly as described in the patient leaflet or according to the
recommendations of a doctor or pharmacist.

  • You should keep this leaflet, so that you can read it again if necessary.
  • If you need advice or additional information, you should consult a pharmacist.
  • If the patient experiences any adverse reactions, including any possible adverse reactions not listed in the leaflet, they should inform their doctor or pharmacist. See section 4.
  • If there is no improvement or the patient feels worse, they should contact their doctor.

1. What is Dermopanten and what is it used for

Dermopanten is an ointment containing the active substance dexpanthenol.
Dexpanthenol, when applied topically to the skin, is metabolized to pantothenic acid.
Pantothenic acid is a component of coenzyme A, which is essential for the proper functioning of
the epithelium and skin, and also affects skin regeneration.

Indications

  • Treatment of superficial wounds, such as abrasions, cuts, skin cracks, burns, skin irritations (e.g. after excessive sun exposure, radiation therapy, or quartz lamp irradiation), minor skin inflammation, ulcers.
  • The medicine is particularly indicated for the treatment of dry skin.
  • In the care of nipples during breastfeeding - prevention and treatment of nipple cracks and irritations.
  • In the care of infants - prevention and treatment of diaper rash and skin inflammation.

2. Important information before using Dermopanten

When not to use Dermopanten

  • if the patient is allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substance or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6). In case of hypersensitivity symptoms, including skin allergic reactions, the use of the medicine should be discontinued and a doctor consulted;
  • for large, deep, and severely infected wounds. In such cases, a doctor should be consulted.

Warnings and precautions

Avoid contact of the medicine with the eyes.

Dermopanten and other medicines

The patient should inform their doctor or pharmacist about all medicines they are currently taking or have recently taken, as well as any medicines they plan to take.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, thinks they may be pregnant, or plans to have a child, they should consult their doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
In the case of using the medicine in breastfeeding women, the nipples should be washed before each breastfeeding.

Driving and using machines

Dermopanten does not affect the ability to drive and use machines.

3. How to use Dermopanten

The medicine is intended for use on the skin.
This medicine should always be used in accordance with the recommendations of a doctor or pharmacist. In case of doubts,
a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted.
Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, the medicine is usually used as described below:

  • In the treatment of superficial wounds, the medicine should be applied once or several times a day, depending on the local condition.
  • In the care of nipples in breastfeeding women, a compress with the ointment should be applied to the nipples. Before each breastfeeding, the nipples should be washed.
  • In the care of infants, the medicine should be applied at each diaper change, after previously rinsing the areas prone to diaper rash with water.

Discontinuation of Dermopanten

The use of Dermopanten should be discontinued and a doctor consulted in case of local allergic reactions.
In case of any further doubts related to the use of this medicine, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
During the use of the medicine, local allergic reactions may occur.

Reporting side effects

If any adverse reactions occur, including any adverse reactions not listed in the leaflet, the patient should inform their doctor or pharmacist. Side effects can be reported directly to the Department of Post-Marketing Surveillance of the Office for Registration of Medicinal Products, Medical Devices, and Biocidal Products

5. How to store Dermopanten

Store below 25°C.
Store in the original packaging to protect from moisture.
The medicine should be stored out of sight and reach of children.
Attention should be paid to the expiry date of the medicine.
The medicine should not be used after the expiry date stated on the carton and tube.
The expiry date refers to the last day of the given month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste containers. A pharmacist should be asked how to dispose of unused medicines. This will help protect the environment.

6. Package contents and other information

What Dermopanten contains

  • The active substance of the medicine is dexpanthenol. 1 g of ointment contains 50 mg of dexpanthenol.
  • The other ingredients are: white petrolatum, white wax, liquid paraffin, polysorbate 80, fragrance enhancer Calendula Y66, purified water.

What Dermopanten looks like and what the package contains

Dermopanten is a uniform, white or cream-colored ointment.
The available packaging of the medicine is an aluminum tube in a cardboard box, containing 30 g of ointment.
