1. Qué es Penilevel y para qué se utiliza

Penilevel contiene fenoximetilpenicilina como principio activo. La fenoximetilpenicilina se usa para tratar algunas infecciones causadas por bacterias. Sólo actúa sobre cepas específicas de bacterias.

Los antibióticos se utilizan para tratar infecciones bacterianas y no sirven para tratar infecciones víricas como la gripe o el catarro.

Es importante que siga las instrucciones relativas a la dosis, el intervalo de administración y la duración del tratamiento indicadas por su médico.

No guarde ni reutilice este medicamento. Si una vez finalizado el tratamiento le sobra antibiótico, devuélvalo a la farmacia para su correcta eliminación. No debe tirar los medicamentos por el desagüe ni a la basura.

Penilevel se utiliza para el tratamiento de las siguientes infecciones:

Adultos

  • Infecciones respiratorias: Faringoamigdalitis estreptocócica aguda (grupo A).
  • Infecciones bacterianas agudas de la piel y de sus estructuras: Escarlatina, ectima, forúnculo, impétigo, erisipela y erisipeloide.
  • Infecciones ondontógenas: Abscesos dentales con celulitis diseminada.

Adolescentes de 12 años de edad y mayores

  • Infecciones respiratorias: Faringoamigdalitis estreptocócica aguda (grupo A).
  • Infecciones bacterianas de la piel y de sus estructuras: Escarlatina, ectima, forúnculo, impétigo, erisipela y celulitis.
  • Infecciones odontógenas: Abscesos dentales con celulitis diseminada.

2. Qué necesita saber antes de empezar a tomar Penilevel

No tome Penilevel

Si es alérgico a la fenoximetilpenicilina o a cualquiera de los demás componentes de este medicamento (ver sección 6) o a otros antibióticos betalactámicos (penicilinas o cefalosporinas).

Advertencias y precauciones

Consulte a su médico antes de empezar a tomar Penilevel, especialmente si ha sufrido previamente cualquier reacción de hipersensibilidad o alérgica a alguna penicilina u otros antibióticos betalactámicos.

Las penicilinas pueden originar reacciones alérgicas graves que pueden llegar a ser mortales.

En el caso de pacientes con alteración de la función renal, consulte a su médico porque puede ser necesaria la disminución de la dosis.

Debe evitarse el uso continuado y repetitivo de antibióticos porque puede crear resistencias y la aparición de otras infecciones.

Los pacientes con insuficiencia renal o con dietas pobres en potasio deben tener en cuenta que este medicamento contiene 55 mg (1,4 mmol) de potasio por cápsula.

Otros medicamentos y Penilevel

Informe a su médico o farmacéutico si está utilizando, ha utilizado recientemente o podría tener que utilizar cualquier otro medicamento.

En particular, informe a su médico o farmacéutico sobre cualquiera de los siguientes medicamentos:

  • Metotrexato (medicamento para tratar cáncer y psoriasis): Las penicilinas pueden aumentar el riesgo de toxicidad al reducir la excreción de metotrexato.
  • Anticonceptivos orales (píldora anticonceptiva): Las penicilinas pueden disminuir la eficacia de los anticonceptivos orales, por lo que podría ser necesario tomar alguna medida anticonceptiva complementaria (por ejemplo, el uso de preservativos masculinos).
  • Probenecid o Sulfinpirazona (medicamentos para tratar la gota).

Toma de Penilevel con alimentos, bebidas y alcohol

Penilevel se puede tomar con o sin alimentos, aunque es preferible tomarlo con el estómago vacío o 1 hora antes o 2 horas después de las comidas.

Debido al tamaño de las cápsulas, no se debe utilizar Penilevel 500 mg cápsulas duras en niños menores de 12 años edad o en pacientes que no puedan tragar las cápsulas enteras. Para niños menores de 12 años de edad existe la presentación en sobres (Penilevel 250 mg sobres).

Debe tragarse directamente las cápsulas enteras con un vaso de agua. Las cápsulas no deben abrirse. Penilevel se puede tomar con o sin alimentos, aunque es preferible tomarlo con el estómago vacío o 1 hora antes o 2 horas después de las comidas.

Si toma más Penilevel del que debe

En caso de sobredosis o ingestión accidental consulte inmediatamente a su médico o farmacéutico o llame al Servicio de Información Toxicológica, teléfono 91 562 04 20, indicando el medicamento y la cantidad tomada.

Si olvidó tomar Penilevel

Si olvidó tomar una dosis diaria, tome la siguiente dosis de manera habitual. No tome una dosis doble para compensar las dosis olvidadas.

Si interrumpe el tratamiento con Penilevel

Es importante continuar tomando Penilevel, salvo que su médico le diga que interrumpa el tratamiento.

Si tiene cualquier otra duda sobre el uso de este medicamento, pregunte a su médico o farmacéutico.

4. Posibles efectos adversos

Al igual que todos los medicamentos, Penilevel puede producir efectos adversos, aunque no todas las personas los sufran.

Los efectos adversos que aparecen con mayor frecuencia son gastrointestinales y reacciones alérgicas.

Pare de tomar el medicamento y pregunte al médico inmediatamente si experimenta alguna de las siguientes reacciones:

  • Reacción alérgica que se acompaña de respiración forzada y rápida, enrojecimiento y picor, habones (ronchas), inflamación de la piel (especialmente labios, cara y lengua), escalofríos o fiebre,
  • urticaria y reacciones cutáneas,
  • temblores,
  • diarrea aguda y profusa, generalmente acompañada por sangre y mucus, dolor de estómago y fiebre.

En caso de que los siguientes efectos adversos sean habituales (dolor de estómago, náuseas, vómitos y diarrea), coméntelo con su médico o farmacéutico.

5. Conservación de Penilevel

Mantener este medicamento fuera de la vista y del alcance de los niños.

Conservar por debajo de 25ºC. Conservar en el embalaje original para protegerlo de la humedad.

No utilice este medicamento después de la fecha de caducidad que aparece en la caja y en el blíster después de "CAD". La fecha de caducidad es el último día del mes que se indica.

Los medicamentos no se deben tirar por los desagües ni a la basura. Deposite los envases y los medicamentos que no necesita en el Punto SIGREde la farmacia. En caso de duda pregunte a su farmacéutico cómo deshacerse de los envases y de los medicamentos que no necesita. De esta forma ayudará a proteger el medio ambiente.

Composición de Penilevel

  • El principio activo es la fenoximetilpenicilina potásica (penicilina V potásica), equivalente a 500 mg de fenoximetilpenicilina.
  • Los demás componentes son: Celulosa microcristalina, talco, estearato de magnesio, gelatina, dióxido de titanio (E-171), indigotina (E-132) y amarillo de quinolina (E-104).
