1. Qué es Ketosteril y para qué se utiliza

Ketosteril es un medicamento para tratamiento nutricional en pacientes con alteración de la función renal (insuficiencia renal).

Este medicamento se utiliza para la prevención y el tratamiento de los daños ocasionados por un metabolismo incorrecto o deficiente de proteínas en adultos con insuficiencia renal crónica. Se emplea conjuntamente con un aporte limitado de proteínas alimentarias de 40 g/día o menos. Esto es así en pacientes cuya filtración glomerular (FG) (volumen de sangre filtrado por el riñón cada minuto) es menor de 25 ml/min.

2. Qué necesita saber antes de empezar a tomar Ketosteril

No tome Ketosteril

  • si es alérgico a los principios activos o a alguno de los demás componentes de este medicamento (incluidos en la sección 6),
- si tiene demasiado calcio en la sangre (hipercalcemia),
- si padece de alteraciones en el metabolismo de los aminoácidos.

Advertencias y precauciones

Consulte a su médico o farmacéutico antes de empezar a tomar Ketosteril si sufre fenilcetonuria, un trastorno hereditario del metabolismo. En tal caso, debe tener en cuenta que este medicamento contiene fenilalanina.

Los niveles de calcio en sangre deben controlarse periódicamente.

Si también está tomando hidróxido de aluminio, deben controlarse las concentraciones séricas de fosfato (ver «Otros medicamentos y Ketosteril»).

Debe garantizarse un aporte calórico suficiente.

Niños y adolescentes

No se dispone de experiencia suficiente hasta la fecha sobre la administración de este medicamento a pacientes pediátricos, incluidos niños y adolescentes.

Otros medicamentos y Ketosteril

Informe a su médico o farmacéutico si está tomando, ha tomado recientemente o pudiera tener que tomar cualquier otro medicamento, incluidos medicamentos obtenidos sin una receta.

  • Tomar este medicamento al mismo tiempo que medicamentos que contienen calciopuede causar unos niveles altos de calcio en la sangre o aumentar esos niveles.
  • No tome este medicamento al mismo tiempo que medicamentos que forma compuestos difícilmente solubles con calcio (por ejemplo, tetraciclinas, quinolinas como ciprofloxacino y norfloxacino, así como medicamentos que contengan hierro, flúor o estramustina). Puede alterar la absorción de los principios activos. Espere al menos dos horas después de tomar este medicamento para tomar cualquiera de esos medicamentos.
  • Los niveles de calcio en su sangre podrían aumentar al tomar este medicamento. Esto puede potenciar el efecto de determinados medicamentos para el corazón(como glucósidos cardioactivos) y, por lo tanto, aumentará el riesgo de arritmias.
  • Tomar este medicamento mejora los síntomas urémicos (exceso de urea —un producto de desecho— en la sangre por insuficiencia renal). Por tanto, en caso de que esté tomando hidróxido de aluminio, debe reducirse la dosis de este medicamento si es necesario. Debe vigilarse una posible disminución de las concentraciones séricas de fosfato.

Si está embarazada o en periodo de lactancia, cree que podría estar embarazada o tiene intención de quedarse embarazada, consulte a su médico antes de utilizar este medicamento

No se requieren precauciones especiales.

3. Cómo tomar Ketosteril

Siga exactamente las instrucciones de administración de este medicamento indicadas por su médico. En caso de duda, consulte de nuevo a su médico o farmacéutico.

Si su médico no le ha recetado otra dosis, la dosis recomendada es

Adultos (70 kg de peso corporal)

Tome de 4 a 8 comprimidos 3 veces al día durante las comidas.

Forma de administración:

  • Vía oral.
  • Trague los comprimidos con suficiente cantidad de líquido.
  • No mastique los comprimidos; su contenido huele mal.

Duración del tratamiento:

Este medicamento se administra mientras la filtración glomerular (FG) (volumen de sangre filtrado por el riñón cada minuto) es inferior a 25 ml/min y, al mismo tiempo, el aporte de proteínas en la alimentación está restringido a 40 g/día o menos (adultos).

Si tiene la impresión de que el efecto de este medicamento es demasiado fuerte o demasiado débil, hable con su médico o farmacéutico.

Si olvidó tomar Ketosteril

No tome una dosis doble para compensar las dosis olvidadas.

Si interrumpe el tratamiento con Ketosteril

No deje de tomar este medicamento sin consultarlo antes con su médico.

4. Posibles efectos adversos

Al igual que todos los medicamentos, este medicamento puede producir efectos adversos, aunque no todas las personas los sufran.

Trastornos del metabolismo y de la nutrición

Muy raro (puede afectar a hasta 1 de 10.000 personas):

  • Hipercalcemia (demasiado calcio en la sangre)

Nota:

Si se produce hipercalcemia, reduzca el aporte de vitamina D. En caso de hipercalcemia persistente, su médico reducirá la dosis de este medicamento y usted disminuirá su consumo de otras fuentes de calcio.

5. Conservación de Ketosteril

Mantener este medicamento fuera de la vista y del alcance de los niños.

Una vez abierta la bolsa exterior, mantener los blísteres en la bolsa para protegerlos de la humedad.

No utilice este medicamento después de la fecha de caducidad que aparece en la caja y el blíster después de «CAD». La fecha de caducidad es el último día del mes que se indica.

Los medicamentos no se deben tirar por los desagües ni a la basura. Deposite los envases y los medicamentos que no necesita en el Punto SIGRE de la farmacia. En caso de duda pregunte a su farmacéutico cómo deshacerse de los envases y de los medicamentos que no necesita. De esta forma ayudará a proteger el medio ambiente.
