1. What is Famciclovir Pensa and what is it used for
Famciclovir Pensa is an antiviral medicine. It stops the multiplication of the infecting virus. Since the virus reproduces in a very early stage of infection, you will benefit more from treatment if you start taking Famciclovir Pensa after the first symptoms appear.
Famciclovir Pensa is used to treat two types of viral infections in adults:
- Herpes zoster, a viral infection caused by a virus called varicella-zoster (the same virus that causes chickenpox). Famciclovir Pensa stops the spread of the virus in the body, so healing occurs more quickly.
- Famciclovir Pensa is also used to treat herpes zoster in the area around the eye or even in the eye itself (herpes zoster ophthalmicus).
- Genital herpes. Genital herpes is a viral infection caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 or 2. It is usually transmitted through sexual contact.
