How to Use the Easyhaler Inhaler

About Your Easyhaler Inhaler

Bufomix Easyhaler may be different from other inhalers you have used before. It is very important that you use it correctly, otherwise, you may not receive the correct amount of medication. This could make you feel unwell or could be the cause that your asthma or COPD is not treated properly.

Your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist will teach you how to use your inhaler correctly. Make sure you understand how to use the inhaler correctly. If you are not sure, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist again. As with all inhalers, caregivers should ensure that children who have been prescribed Bufomix Easyhaler use the correct inhalation technique, as described below.

First Use of the Easyhaler

The Easyhaler inhaler is presented in an aluminum bag. You should only remove it from the aluminum bag when you are ready to start using it because it keeps the powder dry inside the inhaler.

When you are ready to start treatment, open the bag and note the opening date, e.g., in your calendar.

Use the inhaler for 4 months from the date the aluminum bag was opened.

HOW TO USE CORRECTLY

Step 1: SHAKE

  • Remove the cap
  • Shake the inhaler 3 to 5 times while holding it in a vertical position

SHAKE x 3–5

Hand holding a white and red inhaler with blue arrows indicating the direction of pressure to dispense the medication

Important Points to Remember

  • It is essential to keep the inhaler in a vertical position
  • If you accidentally activate the inhaler while shaking it, empty the powder from the mouthpiece as shown below

Step 2: ACTUATE

  • Hold the inhaler vertically between your thumb and index finger
  • Press it until you hear a "click", then release it to return to its initial position. This releases the dose of medication
  • Press only once

ACTUATE x 1

Hand pressing a white and red inhaler with mouthpiece visible blue arrow indicates direction of flow

Important Points to Remember

  • The inhaler will not actuate if the cap is still in place
  • It should only be actuated once
  • If you accidentally actuate it more than once, empty the powder from the mouthpiece as shown below
  • Actuate to release the dose before inhaling, not at the same time
  • Keep the inhaler in a vertical position while actuating and while inhaling the dose. If you tilt it, the powder may fall out and you will not be able to inhale it

Step 3: INHALE

  • Keep the inhaler in a vertical position
  • Breathe normally
  • Place the mouthpiece in your mouth between your teeth and close your lips firmly around the mouthpiece
  • Inhale strongly and deeply
  • Remove the inhaler from your mouth, then breathe normally

INHALE

Patient inhaling medication with a red and white nasal inhaler arrow indicates exhalation

Important Points to Remember

  • Make sure the mouthpiece is completely placed inside your mouth, so the powder can reach your lungs
  • Make sure your lips are firmly closed around the mouthpiece
  • Do not exhale into the inhaler. This is important because it could clog the inhaler. If you exhale into the inhaler, empty the powder from the mouthpiece (see below)

If you need to take a second inhalation, repeat steps 1 to 3 Shake-Actuate-Inhale.

After Using the Inhaler:

  • Put the cap back on the mouthpiece. This will prevent the inhaler from being activated accidentally.
  • After inhaling, rinse your mouth with water and then spit it out.

How to Empty the Powder from the Mouthpiece

If you accidentally actuate the inhaler or if you have actuated it more than once, or if you have exhaled into the inhaler, empty the mouthpiece.

  • Gently tap the mouthpiece on a table surface or on the palm of your hand.
  • Start again with the Shake-Actuate-Inhale steps

Hand holding a medication applicator with a needle descending towards a wooden surface with arrows indicating direction

Cleaning the Easyhaler Inhaler

Keep your inhaler dry and clean. If necessary, you can clean the mouthpiece with a dry cloth. Do not use water: the powder inside the Easyhaler inhaler is sensitive to moisture.

Using the Easyhaler with a Protective Cap

You can use a protective cap with your Easyhaler. This favors the durability of the product. The first time you place the inhaler in the protective cap, make sure the cap covers the mouthpiece of the inhaler, as this will prevent the inhaler from being activated accidentally. You can use the inhaler without removing it from the protective cap.

Follow the instructions indicated above, 1.Shake - 2. Actuate - 3. Inhale.

Remember:

  • Keep the inhaler in a vertical position when you actuate it
  • Put the cap back on after taking the dose, to prevent the inhaler from being activated accidentally.

Hand holding a white and transparent nasal inhaler with a red mouthpiece for medication administration

When to Start Using a New Inhaler

The inhaler has a dose counter that informs you about the number of doses (inhalations) left in your inhaler. The dose counter moves every 5 activations. When the dose counter starts to turn red, there are 20 doses left.

If you do not yet have a new Easyhaler inhaler, contact your doctor for a new prescription. When the indicator reaches 0 (zero), you will need to replace the inhaler.

If you use a protective cap, keep it and insert the new inhaler.

White and red inhaler with a visible dose counter enlarged in a red circle

Remember

  • 1. Shake – 2. Actuate – 3. Inhale
  • After inhaling, rinse your mouth with water and spit it out
  • Avoid getting the inhaler wet and protect it from moisture

If you have any other questions about the use of this medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
