1. Qué es Avaxim Junior y para qué se utiliza

Qué esAvaxim Junior

Avaxim Junior es una vacuna. Las vacunas se usan para proteger frente a enfermedades infecciosas.

Para qué se usaAvaxim Junior

Esta vacuna ayuda a proteger frente a la infección de la hepatitis A.

  • Se usa en niños a partir de 1 año hasta los 15 años de edad.

La hepatitis A es una infección causada por un virus que ataca al hígado.

  • Se puede contraer a través de alimentos o bebidas que contengan el virus.
  • Los síntomas incluyen coloración amarillenta de la piel y los ojos (ictericia) y malestar general.

Cómo funcionaAvaxim Junior

  • Cuando usted recibe una inyección de Avaxim Junior, las defensas naturales de su cuerpo producirán protección frente a la infección de la hepatitis A.

2. Qué necesita saber antes de empezar a usar Avaxim Junior

No useAvaxim Juniorsi usted o su hijo:

  • es alérgico al principio activo o a alguno de los demás componentes de Avaxim Junior (incluidos en la sección 6).
  • es alérgico a la neomicina. Este es un antibiótico empleado durante la producción de vacunas – puede estar presente en la vacuna en pequeñas cantidades.
  • tiene una reacción alérgica después de una dosis previa de Avaxim Junior
  • está enfermo y presenta temperatura elevada. Debe retrasar su vacunación hasta que usted o su hijo se recupere.

Advertencias y precauciones

Consulte con su médico o enfermero antes de empezar a usar Avaxim Junior si usted o su hijo tienen:

  • el sistema inmune pobre o debilitado debido a:
  • corticoesteroides, medicamentos para el cáncer, radioterapia u otros tratamientos que puedan debilitar el sistema inmune. Su médico o enfermero pueden querer esperar hasta que finalice su tratamiento antes de la vacunación.
  • infección por VIH (virus de inmunodeficiencia humana) o cualquier enfermedad que debilite el sistema inmune. Se recomienda administrar la vacuna, aunque no le proteja de igual forma que a las personas con un sistema inmune no debilitado.
  • hemofilia u otras situaciones en las que se puedan producir moratones o hemorragias fácilmente.
  • ictericia (coloración amarillenta de la piel y los ojos) en el pasado o haya vivido en un área donde la hepatitis A sea común. Usted o su hijo podrían necesitar realizarse una prueba para comprobar si previamente tuvieron la infección de la hepatitis A.
  • desfallecimiento con alguna inyección previa.

Después de cualquier inyección con aguja, o incluso antes, puede producirse (principalmente en adolescentes) desfallecimiento.

Si usted ya está infectado con el virus de la hepatitis A en el momento de usar la vacuna, la vacunación puede no ser efectiva.

Otros medicamentos yAvaxim Junior

Informe a su médico, enfermero o farmacéutico si usted o su hijo está tomando o ha tomado recientemente cualquier otro medicamento, incluyendo los medicamentos no sujetos a prescripción médica.

Esta vacuna se le puede administrar a usted o a su hijo al mismo tiempo que cualquiera de las siguientes, pero en diferentes partes del cuerpo (por ejemplo, en el otro brazo o pierna) y no mezclada en la misma jeringa:

  • vacunas (tales como vacunas frente a la difteria, tétanos, pertussis, Haemophilus influenzaede tipo b, poliomielitis, sarampión, paperas y rubéola).
  • anticuerpos obtenidos de donantes de sangre (inmunoglobulinas) – la vacuna podría tener menos efecto si se administra al mismo tiempo que los anticuerpos. Sin embargo, es probable que usted estará protegido frente a la infección de la hepatitis A.

Embarazo y lactancia

Avaxim Juniorcontiene etanol, fenilalanina, potasio y sodio.

  • Avaxim Junior contiene 2 mg de alcohol (etanol) en cada dosis de 0,5 ml. La pequeña cantidad de alcohol en este medicamento no tendrá ningún efecto perceptible.
  • Avaxim Junior contiene 10 microgramos de fenilalanina en cada dosis de 0,5 ml, lo que equivale a 0,17 microgramos/kg para una persona de 60 kg. La fenilalanina puede ser dañina para las personas con fenilcetonuria (PKU), un trastorno genético raro en el que la fenilalanina se acumula porque el cuerpo no puede eliminarla adecuadamente.
  • Avaxim Junior contiene menos de 1 mmol de potasio (39 mg) y sodio (23 mg) por dosis, por lo que se considera esencialmente "exento de potasio" y "exento de sodio".

3. Cómo usar Avaxim Junior

La vacuna será administrada por un médico o enfermero, quienes han sido formados en el uso de la vacuna y que están acostumbrados a tratar reacciones alérgicas severas poco comunes tras la inyección.

Cuándo comienza la protección

La protección contra la hepatitis A comenzará dentro de las 2 semanas posteriores a la administración de la primera dosis de la vacuna.

Protección a largo plazo

Si usted necesita una protección por más tiempo frente a la hepatitis A, necesitaría una segunda dosis dependiendo de las recomendaciones oficiales. Esta dosis se llama dosis de refuerzo.

  • La segunda dosis se administra preferentemente entre los 6 meses hasta los 10 años después de la primera dosis de la vacuna.
  • Avaxim Junior se puede administrar como dosis de refuerzo si usted o su hijo han recibido una primera dosis de una vacuna diferente frente a la hepatitis A.

Cómo administrar la vacuna

  • La vacuna debe ser inyectada dentro del músculo en la parte superior externa del brazo. En niños pequeños puede ser inyectada en la parte externa del muslo.
  • Si usted o su hijo sufren algún desorden sanguíneo, se puede administrar la inyección bajo la piel.
  • Avaxim Junior no se administrará en las nalgas de usted o de su hijo.

4. Posibles efectos adversos

Al igual que todos los medicamentos, Avaxim Junior puede producir efectos adversos, aunque no todas las personas los sufran.

Reacciones alérgicas graves

Las reacciones alérgicas graves (reacciones anafilácticas incluyendo shock) siempre pueden aparecer, incluso aunque sea muy raro.

Comuníquese con su médico o un profesional sanitario de inmediato o vaya de inmediato a las urgencias del hospital más cercano si usted o su hijo experimentan reacciones alérgicas que pueden poner en peligro la vida.Los síntomas suelen aparecer poco después de la inyección y pueden incluir:

  • sarpullido con o sin picazón

  • ganglios linfáticos inflamados.

5. Conservación de Avaxim Junior

Mantener este medicamento fuera de la vista y del alcance de los niños.

No utilice la vacuna después de la fecha de caducidad que aparece en el estuche y en la etiqueta de la jeringa después de CAD. La fecha de caducidad es el último día del mes que se indica.

No utilice esta vacuna si aparecen partículas extrañas en suspensión.

  • Conservar en nevera entre 2ºC y 8ºC.
  • No congelar. Si se congela, la vacuna se debe rechazar.
  • Conservar en el embalaje original para protegerlo de la luz.

Los medicamentos no se deben tirar por los desagües ni a la basura. Pregunte a su farmacéutico cómo deshacerse de los envases y de los medicamentos que ya no necesita. De esta forma, ayudará a proteger el medio ambiente.
