1. Qué es Atolaxant y para qué se utiliza

Atolaxant es un laxante utilizado para el tratamiento del estreñimiento (especialmente el estreñimiento que dura mucho tiempo) en adultos, adolescentes y en pacientes de edad avanzada. No está recomendado en niños menores de 12 años de edad.

También se utiliza para el tratamiento de las heces duras cuando estas se han acumulado en el intestino como resultado de llevar estreñido durante mucho tiempo (esto es conocido como impactaciónn fecal).

El principio activo Macrogol 3350 reblandece las heces haciendo que pasen con mayor facilidad, aliviando su estreñimiento. Los electrolitos (sales) ayudan a mantener los niveles normales de sodio, potasio y agua en su cuerpo mientras esté en tratamiento para el estreñimiento.

2. Qué necesita saber antes de empezar a tomar Atolaxant

No tome Atolaxant

  • si es alérgico a macrogol 3350, cloruro de sodio, hidrogenocarbonato de sodio, cloruro de potasio o alguno de los demás componentes de este medicamento (incluidos en la sección 6),
  • si tiene una perforación en la pared del intestino,
  • si sufre un bloqueo intestinal (obstrucción intestinal, íleo),
  • si sufre una enfermedad intestinal inflamatoria grave, como colitis ulcerativa, enfermedad de Cronh o megacolon tóxico.

3. Cómo tomar Atolaxant

Siga exactamente las instrucciones de administración de este medicamento indicadas por su médico o farmaceutico. En caso de duda, consulte de nuevo a su médico o farmacéutico.

Estreñimiento:

La dosis de Atolaxant es un sobre disuelto en 125 ml (1/4 de agua). Tome esto de 1 a 3 veces al día de acuerdo a la gravedad de su estreñimiento.

El tratamiento con este medicamento dura habitualmente 2 semanas. Si necesita tomar este medicamento durante más tiempo, consulte con su médico. Si su estreñimiento esta causado por una enfermedad como el Parkinson o la esclerosis múltiple (MS) o si toma medicamentos que le causan estreñimiento su médico le recomendará que no tome este medicamento durante más de 2 semanas. Si necesita tomar este medicamento durante más tiempo consulte con su médico. Normalmente para el tratamiento a largo plazo la dosis se deba bajar a 1 o 2 sobres al día.

Impactación fecal

Antes de tomar este medicamento para la impactación fecal, se debe confirmar que padece esta condición. Se necesita una dosis de 8 sobres al día de Atolaxant para el tratamiento de la impactación fecal. Cada sobre se disuelve en 125 ml (1/4 agua) de agua. Los 8 sobres se deben tomar cada seis horas durante 3 días si es necesario. Si tiene una enfermedad cardíaca no tome más de 2 sobres en una hora.

Forma de administración

Abra el sobre y vierta el contenido del mismo en un vaso. Añada 125 ml de agua o un cuarto de agua al vaso. Remueva bien hasta que el polvo se haya disuelto y la solución quede clara o ligeramente turbia y a continuación bébaselo.

Si está en tratamiento para la impactación fecal, puede disolver el contenido de ocho sobres en un envase grande (en un litro de agua).

Este medicamento se debe tomar oralmente.

Niños

No administre este medicamento en niños menores de 12 años de edad.

Si toma más Atolaxant del que debe

Puede presentar dolor grave e inflamación del abdomen (estómago) o vómitos (náuseas) o diarrea. La diarrea excesiva puede llevar a deshidratación. Si esto ocurre, deje de tomar este medicamento y beba abundantes líquidos. Si experimenta estos síntomas, consulte con su médico o farmacéutico.

Si ha tomado más Atolaxant del que debe, consulte inmediatamente a su médico, a su farmacéutico o llame al Servicio de Información Toxicológica, teléfono: 91 562 04 20, indicando el medicamento y la cantidad utilizada.

Si olvidó tomar Atolaxant

Tome su dosis tan pronto lo recuerde.

4. Posibles efectos adversos

Al igual que todos los medicamentos, este medicamento puede producir efectos adversos, aunque no todas las personas los sufran.

Si sufre alguno de los siguientes efectos adversos deje de tomar Atolaxant y acuda inmediatamente a su médico:

  • Signos de alergia como: eczema, picores, enrojecimiento de la piel, falta de aliento o dificultad para respirar o hinchazón de la cara, labios, lengua o garganta.
  • Signos de cambio en los fluidos de su cuerpo o de los niveles de electrolitos (niveles de sales), como: hinchazón (principalmente en los tobillos), debilidad, deshidratación, aumento del cansancio o aumento de la sensación de sed con dolor de cabeza. Estos síntomas pueden ser un signo de que los niveles de potasio en sangre están más altos o más bajos de lo normal.

Otros efectos adversos incluyen:

  • hinchazón de manos, pies y tobillos,
  • dolor de cabeza,
  • indigestión, dolor de estomágo, calambres,
  • sentirse hinchado, sufrir aerofagia, sentirse mareado o vómitos,
  • dolor en el ano (culo),
  • diarrea (cuando comienza a tomar este medicamento),
  • cambio en los niveles de líquidos o electrolitos de su cuerpo ( niveles bajos de sodio).

Estos efectos adversos en general mejoran si se reduce la cantidad de Atolaxant que toma.

5. Conservación de Atolaxant

Mantener este medicamento fuera de la vista y del alcance de los niños.

No utilice este medicamento después de la fecha de caducidad que aparece en el envase y el sobre después de CAD/EXP. La fecha de caducidad es el ultimo día del mes que se indica.

No conservar a temperatura superior a 25ºC.

Una vez reconstituido Atolaxant en agua, manténgalo tapado y consérvelo en nevera (entre 2 °C y 8°C), debe tomarse en las 24 horas siguientes. Transcurridas 24 horas cualquier resto de la solución reconstituida debe desecharse.

No utilize este medicamento si observa cualquier signo de deterioro en el sobre.

Los medicamentos no se deben tirar por los desagües ni a la basura. Deposite los envases y los medicamentos que no necesita en el Punto SIGRE de la farmacia. En caso de duda pregunte a su farmacéutico cómo deshacerse de los envases y de los medicamentos que no necesita. De esta forma, ayudará a proteger el medio ambiente.
