1. What is Budesonida Easyhaler and what is it used for

The active ingredient of Budesonida Easyhaler is budesonide. Budesonide powder is presented in an inhaler. When inhaled through the mouthpiece, the powder enters the lungs with the inhaled air. Budesonide acts by reducing and preventing the swelling and inflammation of the lungs.

Budesonida Easyhaler is a medication known as “preventive”. It is used to prevent the symptoms of asthma. It belongs to a group of medications called corticosteroids.

Budesonide WILL NOT stop an asthma attack once it has already started. Therefore, it is necessary to always have a rapid-acting bronchodilator “calmative” (a beta2agonist) on hand.

The effect of budesonide begins after a few days of treatment and reaches its maximum after a few weeks. Take Budesonida Easyhaler regularly to prevent asthmatic inflammation. Continue taking this medication regularly, according to the usage instructions, even if you do not have symptoms.

2. What you need to know before starting to use Budesonide Easyhaler

Do not use Budesonida Easyhaler if you are allergic:

  • to budesonide or
  • to another component of this medication (listed in section 6) which is lactose (containing small amounts of lactose proteins)

Inform your doctor so that your medication can be changed.

Warnings and precautions

Consult your doctorbeforestarting to use Budesonida Easyhaler if you have:

  • lung tuberculosis
  • untreated bacterial, viral, or fungal infection in your mouth, respiratory tract, or lungs
  • severe liver problems

Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other visual disturbances.

Swallow the mouthpiece with water after each inhalation to prevent fungal infection in the mouth.

Budesonida Easyhaler is not recommended for children under 6 years old.

Other medications and Budesonida Easyhaler

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are using, have used recently, or may have to use any other medication, including those purchased without a prescription.

Some medications may increase the effects of Budesonida Easyhaler and your doctor may consider close monitoring if you are taking these medications (including some medications for HIV treatment: ritonavir, cobicistar).

Inform your doctor if you are using:

  • nasal sprays containing corticosteroids
  • oral corticosteroids
  • antifungal medications containing ketoconazole and itraconazole

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or think you may be pregnant, consult your doctor before using this medication. It is essential to maintain proper asthma treatment during pregnancy for both the mother and the fetus. As with other medications administered during pregnancy, the benefits of administering budesonide to the mother should be weighed against the risks to the fetus. Use the lowest effective dose of budesonide to maintain adequate asthma control.

Driving and operating machinery

There is no indication that Budesonida Easyhaler may affect your ability to drive and operate machinery.

Budesonida Easyhaler powder for inhalation contains a small amount of lactose, which is unlikely to cause problems even if you have lactose intolerance. If your doctor has told you that you have intolerance to certain sugars, consult with them before using this medication.

Lactose contains small amounts of lactose proteins, which may cause an allergic reaction.

3. How to use Budesonide Easyhaler

Follow exactly the administration instructions of this medication as indicated by your doctor. In case of doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again.

Your doctor has prescribed the most suitable dose and duration of Budesonida Easyhaler for you. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Switching from oral corticosteroid tablets to Budesonida Easyhaler:

Consult your doctor if you take oral corticosteroid tablets (e.g. prednisone) to treat your asthma. Your doctor may gradually reduce the number of tablets until you eventually stop treatment in a few weeks. If you do not feel well during this transfer period, consult your doctor but do not stop using Budesonida Easyhaler.

Use in adults (including elderly) and adolescents (12 to 17 years):

  • 1-2 inhalations in the morning and evening or once a day in the evening.

Use in children 6 to 11 years:

  • 1-2 inhalations in the morning and evening or once a day in the evening.

During treatment, your doctor will adjust your dose and prescribe the minimum dose that controls your asthma symptoms (maintenance dose).

If Budesonida Easyhaler is administered to children, ensure that they can use it correctly.

In addition to the preventive Budesonida Easyhaler, you may also need a bronchodilator reliever:

Budesonida will not stop an asthma attack once it has started. Therefore, it is necessary to always have a quick-acting bronchodilator reliever (beta 2 agonist) on hand in case of acute asthma symptoms.

If you use a reliever inhaler (beta 2 agonist), you should inhale it before Budesonida Easyhaler (preventive).

Worsening of asthma symptoms during treatment:

Consult your doctor as soon as possible if:

  • Your wheezing (jadeo) or chest pain worsens during treatment
  • You need to use your reliever inhaler more often than before
  • Your reliever inhaler does not relieve you as well as before

Your asthma may worsen and you may need additional treatment.

If you use more Budesonida Easyhaler than you should:

If you use a higher dose of Budesonida Easyhaler than you should or more doses than you should, consult your doctor as soon as possible. You should continue using Budesonida Easyhaler unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

It is essential to take your dose as advised by your doctor or pharmacist. Do not increase or decrease your dose without medical advice.

If you forget to use Budesonida Easyhaler:

If you forget to administer a dose, take one as soon as possible, or you can take the next dose when it is due. Take the medication at the same time of day.

Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed doses.

If you interrupt treatment with Budesonida Easyhaler:

Do not stop treatment with Budesonida Easyhaler without consulting your doctor. If you stop using the medication abruptly, your asthma may worsen.

If you have any other questions about the use of this medication, ask your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.

The instructions on how to use the inhaler are located at the end of the prospectus.

How to use the Easyhaler inhaler

About your Easyhaler inhaler

Budesonide Easyhaler may be different from other inhalers you have used before. Therefore, it is very important that you use it correctly, otherwise, you may not receive the right amount of medicine. This may make you feel unwell or be the cause of your asthma not being treated properly.

Your doctor, nurse or pharmacist will teach you how to use your inhaler correctly. Make sure you understand how to use it correctly. If you are unsure, contact your doctor, nurse or pharmacist again. As with all inhalers, caregivers should ensure that children prescribed Budesonide Easyhaler use the correct inhalation technique, as described below. You can also use the instructional video available at https://cima.aemps.es/info/66670

First use of the Easyhaler

The Easyhaler inhaler is presented in an aluminum bag. Do not open the bag until you are ready to start using it, as it keeps the powder dry inside the inhaler.

When you are ready to start treatment, open the bag and note the date of opening, e.g. in your diary.

Use the inhaler for 6 months from the date the aluminum bag is opened.

HOW TO USE CORRECTLY

Step 1: SHAKE

  • Remove the cap
  • Shake the inhaler3to5times while holding it in a vertical position

SHAKE x 3 – 5

Important points to remember

  • It is essential to keep the inhaler in a vertical position
  • If you accidentally activate the inhaler while shaking it, empty the powder from the mouthpiece as shown below

Step 2: ACTIVATE

  • Hold the inhaler in a vertical position between your thumb and index finger
  • Press it until you hear a "click", then release it to return to its initial position. This releases the dose of medicine
  • Press only once

ACTIVATE x 1

Important points to remember

  • The inhaler will not activate if the cap is still in place
  • Only press once
  • If you accidentally press it more than once, empty the powder from the mouthpiece as shown below
  • Activate to release the dose before inhaling it, not at the same time
  • Keep the inhalerin a vertical positionwhile activating it and while inhaling the dose. If you tilt it, the powder may fall out and you will not be able to inhale it

Step 3: INHALE

  • Keep the inhaler in a vertical position
  • Breathe normally
  • Place the mouthpiece in your mouth between your teeth and close your lips firmly around the mouthpiece
  • Inhale deeply and energetically
  • Remove the inhaler from your mouth, hold your breath for at least 5 seconds, and then breathe normally

INHALE

Important points to remember

  • Make sure the mouthpiece is completely placed in your mouth, so that the powder can reach your lungs
  • Make sure your lips are firmly closed around the mouthpiece
  • Do not exhale into the inhaler. This is important as it may block the inhaler. If you exhale into the inhaler, empty the powder from the mouthpiece (see below)

If you need to take a second inhalation, repeat steps 1 to 3 Shake-Activate-Inhale.

After using the inhaler:

  • Replace the cap on the mouthpiece. This will prevent the inhaler from accidentally activating.
  • After inhaling, rinse your mouth with water and then spit it out and/or brush your teeth. This reduces the risk of fungal infection and sore throat.

How to empty the powder from the mouthpiece

If you accidentally activate the inhaler or if you have accidentally pressed it more than once, or if you have exhaled into the inhaler, empty the powder from the mouthpiece.

  • Gently tap the mouthpiece on a table or the palm of your hand.
  • Start again with the steps Shake-Activate-Inhale.

Cleaning of your Easyhaler inhaler

Keep the inhaler dry and clean. If necessary, clean the outside of the mouthpiece with a dry cloth. Do not use water: the powder inside the Easyhaler inhaler is sensitive to moisture.

Using the Easyhaler with a protective cover

You can use a protective cover with the inhaler. This helps to maintain the product's durability. The first time you place the inhaler in the protective cover, make sure the cap covers the mouthpiece of the inhaler, as this will prevent the inhaler from accidentally activating. You can use the inhaler without removing it from the protective cover.

Follow the instructions indicated above,1.Shake - 2.Activate - 3. Inhale.

Remember:

  • Keep the inhaler in a vertical position when activating it.
  • Replace the cap again after taking the dose, to prevent the inhaler from accidentally activating.

When to start using a new inhaler

The inhaler has a dose counter that informs you about the number of doses (inhalations) remaining in your inhaler. The dose counter moves every 5 activations. When the dose counter starts to turn red, there are 20 doses left.

If you do not yet have a new Easyhaler inhaler, contact your doctor for a new prescription. When the indicator reaches 0(zero), you must replace the inhaler.

If you use a protective cover, you can store it and insert the new inhaler.

Remember

  • 1. Shake – 2. Activate – 3. Inhale.
  • After inhaling, rinse your mouth with water and then spit it out and/or brush your teeth.
  • Prevent the inhaler from getting wet, protect it from moisture.

If you have any other questions about using this medicinal product, ask your doctor or pharmacist
