ValaciclovirTeva belongs to a group of medicines called antivirals. It works by stopping or slowing the growth of viruses called herpes simplex (HSV), varicella zoster (VZV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV).

Be especially careful with Valaciclovir Teva – Important Information:
Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) has been reported with the use of valaciclovir. DRESS initially presents with flu-like symptoms and a rash on the face that then spreads, with high body temperature, elevated liver enzymes seen in blood tests, and an increase in a type of white blood cell (eosinophilia) and enlarged lymph nodes.
If you develop a rash associated with fever and enlarged lymph nodes, stop taking valaciclovir and consult your doctor or seek medical attention immediately.
Prevention of genital herpes transmission to others
If you are taking Valaciclovir Teva to treat or prevent genital herpes, or have had genital herpes in the past, you must practice safe sex, including the use of condoms. This is important to prevent transmitting the infection to others. Do not have sex if you have genital ulcers or blisters.
Other medicines and Valaciclovir Teva
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have taken recently, or may need to take any other medicine, including those bought without a prescription or herbal medicines.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any medicine that affects the kidneys.
This includes: aminoglycosides, organoplatinum compounds, iodinated contrast media, methotrexate, pentamidine, foscarnet, ciclosporin, tacrolimus, cimetidine, and probenecid.
Always inform your doctor or pharmacist about other medicines you are taking if you are taking Valaciclovir Teva for the treatment of herpes zoster or after an organ transplant.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Valaciclovir Teva is usually not recommended for use during pregnancy. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or think you may be pregnant, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine. Your doctor will weigh the benefits for you against the risks for the baby if you take Valaciclovir Teva while pregnant or breastfeeding.
Driving and operating machines
Valaciclovir Teva may cause side effects that affect your ability to drive. Do not drive or operate machines unless you are sure it will not affect you.
Valaciclovir Teva contains sodium
This medicine contains less than 23 mg of sodium (1 mmol) per tablet; this is essentially "sodium-free".
Follow exactly the administration instructions of this medication as indicated by your doctor. In case of doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again.
The dose you should take will depend on why your doctor prescribed valaciclovir. Your doctor will indicate the appropriate dosage.

Children under 12 years old
Valaciclovir is not recommended for children under 12 years old.
If you take more Valaciclovir Teva than you should
Valaciclovir is usually not harmful, unless you take too much over several days. If you take too many tablets, you may experience nausea, vomiting, kidney problems, feel confused, agitated, feel less attentive, see things that are not there, or become unconscious. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you take too much valaciclovir. Bring the packaging with you. You can also call the Toxicology Information Service, phone 91 562 04 20, indicating the medication and the amount taken.
If you forgot to take Valaciclovir Teva
If you have any other doubts about the use of this medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them.
Symptoms to be aware of:

Skin eruptions or redness. The skin reaction can appear as eruptions with or without blisters. It can cause skin irritation, edema (DRESS syndrome) and fever and symptoms similar to the flu.

Keep this medication out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medication after the expiration date that appears on the carton and blister pack after CAD. The expiration date is the last day of the month indicated.
Store below 30°C.
Medicines should not be disposed of through drains or in the trash. Dispose of the packaging and medicines you no longer need at the SIGRE collection point of the pharmacy.
