Themedicineslikeoxcarbazepina, are the standard treatment for epilepsy.
Patients diagnosed with epilepsy have suffered repeated seizures or convulsions. Seizures occur due to a temporary failure in the electrical system of the brain.Normally the brain cells coordinate the body movements by sending signals through the nerve muscles in an orderly organized way.The result can be uncoordinated muscle activity that is called an epileptic seizure.
Oxcarbazepina is used for the treatment of partial seizures with or without secondary generalization with tonic-clonic seizures. Partial seizures cover a limited area of the brain, but can extend to the entire brain and produce generalized tonic-clonic seizures. There are 2 types of partial seizures: simple and complex. In simple partial seizures, the patient remains conscious, while in complex partial seizures, the state of consciousness is altered.
Oxcarbazepina acts by keeping the "hyperexcited" nerve cells of the brain under control, suppressing or reducing the frequency of these seizures.
Oxcarbazepinamaybeusedaloneor in combination with otherantiepileptic medications.Normally the doctor will try to findthemedication that works best foryouoryourchild, however, in severe epilepsy, it may be necessary to combine two or more medications to control seizures.Oxcarbazepina is indicated for use in adults and in children 6 years of age or older.
