Introduction

Package Insert: Information for the User

ENEAS 10 mg/20 mg Tablets

Enalapril maleate/Nitrendipine

Read this package insert carefully before taking this medicine, as it contains important information for you.

  • Keep this package insert, as you may need to read it again.
  • If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
  • This medicine has been prescribed only for you, and you should not give it to others even if they have the same symptoms as you, as it may harm them.
  • If you experience any side effects, consult your doctor or pharmacist, even if they are not listed in this package insert. See section 4.

1. What is Eneas and what is it used for

Enalapril maleate belongs to a group of medications called angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors). Nitrendipine belongs to a group of medications called calcium channel blockers.

It is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in patients who are not adequately controlled with enalapril or nitrendipine alone.

2. What you need to know before starting to take Eneas

Do not take Eneas

If you are taking any of the following medications, the risk of angioedema may increase:

Racecadotril, a medication used to treat diarrhea.

Medications used to prevent organ transplant rejection and for cancer (e.g., temsirolimus, sirolimus, everolimus).

Vildagliptin, a medication used to treat diabetes.

Especially, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have taken recently, or may need to take any of the following medications:

Supplements of potassium (including salt substitutes) and diuretics that save potassium and other medications that may increase the amount of potassium in the blood (e.g., trimetoprima and cotrimoxazol for bacterial infections; ciclosporina, an immunosuppressive medication used to prevent organ transplant rejection; and heparin, a medication used to dilute the blood to prevent clots).

Warnings and precautions

Consult your doctor before starting to take Eneas

  • If you experience swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or larynx, you must immediately interrupt treatment and inform your doctor immediately.
  • If you have a disease of the connective tissue affecting the vascular system (vascular collagen disease), if you receive a therapy that reduces the body's defense system (immunosuppressive therapy) and/or receive a treatment with alopurinol or procainamida, especially if you have impaired renal function. Your doctor will regularly monitor your white blood cell count.
  • If you have kidney disease, your doctor may consider performing certain tests during treatment with this medication.
  • If you have a mild or moderate limitation of your liver function.
  • If you think you are pregnant (or may become pregnant), you must inform your doctor. It is not recommended to administer Eneas in the early stages of pregnancy, and it should not be taken if you are more than 3 months pregnant, as it may cause serious harm to your baby if used in this stage (see section on pregnancy and breastfeeding).

  • If you have heart problems.
  • If you are being treated due to a severe metabolic disorder (LDL-apheresis) or due to an allergic reaction to insect bites (immune therapy), because you may experience hypersensitivity reactions that can put your life at risk. Your doctor must temporarily substitute Eneas with another medication for high blood pressure.
  • If you experience side effects at the beginning of treatment
  • If you experience fluid loss due to diuretic medication, diarrhea, or vomiting; due to a low-sodium diet, or for other reasons, as you may feel dizzy when changing positions suddenly.
  • If you are taking any of the following medications used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension):
    • An angiotensin II receptor antagonist (ARA) (also known as "sartanes" - e.g., valsartan, telmisartan, irbesartan), especially if you have renal problems related to diabetes.
    • Aliskiren

Your doctor may regularly monitor your renal function, blood pressure, and blood electrolyte levels (e.g., potassium).

See also the information under the heading “Do not take Eneas”.

Consult your doctor, even if any of the circumstances mentioned above have occurred at any time.

During treatment with Eneas, your doctor will perform regular medical tests. Follow the scheduled medical visits established by your doctor.

Taking Eneas with other medications

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, or have taken recently, any other medication, even those purchased without a prescription.

Your doctor may need to modify your dose and/or take other precautions:

Eneas may increase the effect of other medications for the treatment of high blood pressure.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and fertility

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or think you may be pregnant, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medication.

Pregnancy

You must inform your doctor if you are (or think you may be) pregnant. Your doctor will usually advise you to interrupt treatment with Eneas before becoming pregnant or as soon as you know you are pregnant and advise you to take another medication instead of Eneas. It is not recommended to take Eneas in the early stages of pregnancy, and it should not be taken if you are more than 3 months pregnant, as it may cause serious harm to your baby if used in this stage (see section on pregnancy and breastfeeding).

Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to start. Eneas is not recommended for mothers who are breastfeeding, and your doctor should prescribe another treatment if you plan to be in this situation, especially if your baby is newborn or premature.

Fertility

In isolated cases of in vitro fertilization, nitrendipine, one of the active substances of Eneas, has been associated with altered sperm function. In men, in cases where repeated failed paternity of in vitro fertilization occurs, and there is no other explanation, Eneas may be considered as a possible cause.
