Contents of the pack
Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid is an antibiotic that eliminates the bacteria that cause infections. It contains two different medicines called amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxicillin belongs to a group of medicines known as "penicillins" which can sometimes lose their effectiveness (become inactivated). The other component (clavulanic acid) prevents this from happening.
Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections and are not effective against viral infections such as the flu or the common cold. It is important to follow the instructions regarding dosage, administration interval, and treatment duration as indicated by your doctor. Do not store or reuse this medicine. If you have any leftover antibiotic after finishing the treatment, return it to the pharmacy for proper disposal. Do not throw medicines down the drain or into the trash. |

Medical Advice/Education Antibiotics are used to treat infections caused by bacteria. They have no effect against infections caused by viruses. Sometimes, a bacterial infection does not respond to a course of an antibiotic. One of the most common reasons for this to happen is that the bacteria causing the infection are resistant to the antibiotic being taken. This means they can survive and even multiply despite the antibiotic. Bacteria can become resistant to antibiotics for many reasons. The careful use of antibiotics can help reduce the likelihood of bacteria becoming resistant to them. When your doctor prescribes an antibiotic treatment, it is only intended to treat your current illness. Paying attention to the following tips will help prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria that could stop the antibiotic from working.
