1. What is Amoxicilina Teva and what is it used for

What is Amoxicilina Teva

Amoxicilina Teva is an antibiotic. The active ingredient is amoxicilina. This belongs to a group of medicines called “penicillins”.

Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections and do not work for viral infections such as the flu or a cold.

It is essential that you follow the instructions regarding the dose, administration interval, and duration of treatment indicated by your doctor.

Do not store or reuse this medication. If you have any leftover antibiotic after treatment, return it to the pharmacy for proper disposal. Do not dispose of the medication through the drain or in the trash.

What is Amoxicilina Teva used for

Amoxicilina Teva is used to treat infections caused by bacteria in different parts of the body. Amoxicilina Teva may also be used in combination with other medications to treat stomach ulcers.

2. What you need to know before starting to take Amoxicilina Teva

Do not take Amoxicilina Teva

  • if you are allergic to amoxicillin, penicillins or any of the other components of this medication (listed in section 6).
  • If you have ever had an allergic reaction to any other antibiotic. This could include a skin rash or swelling of the face or throat.

Do not take Amoxicilina Teva if any of the above applies to you. If you are unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Amoxicilina Teva.

Warnings and precautions

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Amoxicilina Teva if:

  • You have infectious mononucleosis (fever, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes and extreme fatigue)
  • You have kidney problems

Inform your doctor or pharmacist that you are taking Amoxicilina Teva. This is because Amoxicilina Teva may affect the results of these types of tests.

Use of Amoxicilina Teva with other medications

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are using, have used recently or may need to use any other medication.

  • If you are taking allopurinol (used for gout) with Amoxicilina Teva, you may be more likely to have a skin rash.
  • If you are taking anticoagulants (such as warfarin) with Amoxicilina Teva, you may need more blood tests.
  • methotrexate (a medication used to treat cancer and severe psoriasis), penicillins may reduce the excretion of methotrexate and cause a potential increase in adverse effects.
  • probenecid (used to treat gout), the concomitant use of probenecid may reduce the excretion of amoxicillin and is not recommended.
  • If you are taking other antibiotics (such as tetracycline), Amoxicilina Teva may be less effective.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medication.

General advice regarding the use of antibiotics

Antibiotics are used for the treatment of bacterial infections. They are not effective against viral infections.

Occasionally, a bacterial infection does not respond to antibiotic treatment. One of the most common reasons for this is that the bacteria causing the infection are resistant to the antibiotic being taken. This means that the bacteria can survive or grow despite the antibiotic.

Bacteria can become resistant to antibiotics for many reasons. Using antibiotics properly can reduce the likelihood of bacteria becoming resistant to them.

When your doctor prescribes an antibiotic, it is only for your current illness. Paying attention to the following advice will help prevent the development of resistant bacteria that may make the antibiotic ineffective:

1. It is very important that you take the antibiotic in the correct dose, at the indicated hours, and for the correct number of days. Read the leaflet instructions and, if you do not understand something, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

2. Do not take an antibiotic unless you have been prescribed it specifically for you and use it only for the infection for which it was prescribed.

3. Do not take antibiotics that have been prescribed for other people, even if they had a similar infection to yours.

4. Do not give antibiotics that have been prescribed for you to other people.

5. If you still have antibiotics left over after completing treatment, hand in all unused medications to your pharmacy to ensure that the disposal requirements are met.
