1. What is Vitaminum E 400 mg Hasco and what is it used for

Vitamin E is one of the essential nutrients, but its role is not yet fully understood. Together with catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and selenium, it is part of the system that protects cells from the effects of oxygen free radicals. It protects polyunsaturated fatty acids in cell membranes and other cell structures, stabilizes cell membranes and cell organelles, and prevents hemolysis of red blood cells.
Protection against oxidative damage appears to be important in the development and functioning of the nervous and muscular systems.
Vitamin E may also act as a cofactor in certain enzyme systems. It participates in glucose oxidation and glycogenolysis. It is involved in lipid metabolism: prostaglandins and cholesterol.
Epidemiological studies indicate a relationship between daily vitamin E intake and the risk of coronary heart disease, atherosclerosis, and other diseases whose pathogenesis is associated with oxidative stress. Vitamin E reduces the aggregatory activity of platelets.

Indications for use:

  • treatment of vitamin E deficiency caused by impaired bile secretion, chronic enteritis, prolonged improper nutrition, and metabolic disorders;
  • supportive treatment in atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, cholesterol prophylaxis, and stroke prevention (especially in people living in a polluted environment, exposed to stress, or smokers), in thrombophlebitis, intermittent claudication, and ophthalmological disorders (arteriosclerotic and hypertensive retinopathy);
  • prophylaxis of diseases whose etiology is associated with oxidative stress.

2. Important information before using Vitaminum E 400 mg Hasco

Warnings and precautions

Before starting to use Vitaminum E 400 mg Hasco, the patient should discuss it with their doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.

Vitaminum E 400 mg Hasco and other medicines

The patient should inform their doctor or pharmacist about all medicines they are currently taking or have recently taken, as well as any medicines they plan to take.
Vitamin E may act antagonistically to vitamin K, especially in patients treated with oral anticoagulant medicines or estrogens. The use of other antioxidants (vitamin C, selenium, ubiquinone, sulfur-containing amino acids) may alleviate some symptoms of vitamin E deficiency. Concurrent use of iron preparations may weaken the effect of vitamin E, so a few hours' interval should be maintained between taking these medicines.
Vitamin E may reduce the need for insulin and digitalis glycosides, and increase the absorption, utilization, and storage of vitamin A.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, thinks they may be pregnant, or plans to have a child, they should consult their doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
During pregnancy or breastfeeding, the medicine should only be used on the advice of a doctor.

Driving and operating machinery

Taking Vitaminum E 400 mg Hasco has no effect or a negligible effect on the ability to drive and operate machinery.

Vitaminum E 400 mg Hasco contains purified peanut oil.

Using a higher dose of Vitaminum E 400 mg Hasco than recommended

In case of taking a significantly higher dose of the medicine than recommended, the patient should consult their doctor or pharmacist.
High doses of vitamin E taken for a long time may cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, and other gastrointestinal disorders, as well as fatigue, weakness, blurred vision, headaches, rash, disorders of the sex glands, and decreased thyroid hormone levels in the blood.

Missing a dose of Vitaminum E 400 mg Hasco

The patient should not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

4. Possible side effects
