3 mg/g, eye ointment
Ofloxacin
Floxal contains the active substance ofloxacin, which belongs to a group of antibacterial medicines called fluoroquinolones. The medicine has antibacterial effects on certain aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.
The medicine is used to treat infections of the anterior segment of the eye, caused by microorganisms sensitive to ofloxacin, such as chronic conjunctivitis, keratitis, corneal ulcer, and chlamydial infection.
Before starting to use Floxal, the patient should discuss it with their doctor or pharmacist, especially in situations:
In case of a skin rash or any other allergic reaction to Floxal eye ointment, the use of the medicine should be stopped and the doctor should be consulted.
If necessary, the attending doctor will provide appropriate treatment.
During the use of Floxal eye ointment, excessive exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet radiation (e.g., quartz lamps, solarium, etc.) should be avoided due to the possibility of photosensitivity reactions.
Prolonged use of Floxal may lead to the multiplication of pathogenic microorganisms that are resistant to this medicine. In such a situation, the doctor will provide appropriate treatment.
Tendonitis and tendon rupture have occurred in people taking fluoroquinolones orally or intravenously, especially in older patients and those treated with corticosteroids at the same time. The treatment with Floxal eye ointment should be stopped if pain or tendon swelling (tendinitis) occurs.
The use of the medicine is not recommended in children under 1 year of age, as its safety and efficacy in this age group have not been established.
The patient should inform their doctor or pharmacist about all medicines they are currently taking or have recently taken, as well as about medicines they plan to take.
If Floxal eye ointment is used at the same time as other ointments or eye drops, a 15-minute interval should be maintained between the administration of the medicines. Floxal eye ointment should be used last.
If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, thinks they may be pregnant, or plans to have a child, they should consult their doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
The doctor will decide whether the patient can use Floxal eye ointment.
Ofloxacin had no effect on fertility in animals.
Immediately after using the ointment, temporary, transient blurred vision may occur. Patients should not operate machines or drive until these symptoms have completely resolved.
The medicine may cause local skin reactions (e.g., contact dermatitis).
This medicine should always be used as directed by the doctor or pharmacist. In case of doubts, the doctor or pharmacist should be consulted.
