1. What Flixotide is and What It is Used For

Flixotide Nebuliser Suspension belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids, which are used to treat asthma. The active substance in this medicine, fluticasone propionate, is a corticosteroid with mainly local effects on the lungs.

Indications for Use Adults and Adolescents Over 16 Years of Age:

The medicine is used to prevent severe asthma attacks in patients who require high doses of inhaled or oral steroids. Starting fluticasone propionate inhalation in many patients allows the reduction or complete withdrawal of oral steroids.

Children Aged 4 to 16 Years:

Treatment of acute asthma attacks.

2. Before You Use Flixotide

When Not to Use Flixotide

  • If you are allergic to fluticasone propionate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and Precautions

If Your Asthma Symptoms Get Worse or Your Asthma is Not Controlled, i.e., if your wheezing worsens or you need to use more inhalations of a fast-acting reliever inhaler, you should continue to use your medicine and contact your doctor immediatelywho will assess your condition and recommend the appropriate treatment.

Flixotide and Other Medicines

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking now or have taken recently, including those you have bought without a prescription.

Pregnancy and Breast-feeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.

Driving and Using Machines

It is unlikely that the possible side effects of Flixotide will affect your ability to drive or use machines.

3. How to Use Flixotide

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Do not exceed the recommended dose. If you are not sure, ask your doctor.

Dosage

Adults and Adolescents Over 16 Years of Age- 0.5 to 2.0 mg twice daily, strictly according to the doctor's instructions.

Method of Administration

Before use, shake the container well by shaking it several times. To open, twist the top, movable part of the container and tear it off.

Overdose

In case of overdose, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately for advice.

Missed Dose

It is very important to take the prescribed dose every day to ensure the best effect of the treatment.

Stopping Flixotide

Do not stop taking Flixotide suddenly, as your symptoms may worsen and hormonal disorders may occur in your body.

4. Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, Flixotide can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Allergic Reactions: Seek Medical Attention Immediately

Allergic reactionsto Flixotide are uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people). They may include:

  • Skin rash or redness.

Other Side Effects

Very Common Side Effects(may affect more than 1 in 10 people):

  • Thrush (painful, creamy-white patches) in the mouth and throat, difficulty swallowing. Rinsing your mouth with water and spitting it out after inhalation may help.

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet.

5. How to Store Flixotide

Store in a temperature below 30°C. Protect from light, do not freeze.

Disposal

Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use.

6. Contents of the Pack and Other Information

What Flixotide Contains

  • The active substance is fluticasone propionate (micronized). 2 ml of suspension (1 plastic container) contains 0.5 mg or 2 mg (milligrams) of fluticasone propionate (micronized).
  • The other ingredients are: polysorbate 20, sorbitan laurate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, disodium phosphate anhydrous, sodium chloride, water for injection.
