1. What is Flixotide and what is it used for

Flixotide, nebulizer suspension belongs to the group of medicines used in bronchial asthma. The active substance of the medicine, fluticasone propionate, is a steroid with local anti-inflammatory action in the lungs.

Indications for use Adults and adolescents over 16 years of age:

The medicine is used preventively in severe bronchial asthma, in patients who require the use of high doses of inhaled or oral steroids. Starting the use of fluticasone propionate in inhalation in many people allows reducing the doses or completely discontinuing oral steroids.

Children from 4 to 16 years of age:

Treatment of exacerbation of bronchial asthma.

2. Important information before using Flixotide

When not to use Flixotide

  • if the patient is allergic to fluticasone propionate or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and precautions

If asthma symptoms worsen or asthma control deteriorates, i.e. if wheezing worsens or it is necessary to use a larger number of inhalations of a fast-acting inhaled medicine to facilitate breathing, the patient should continue using the medicine and immediately contact a doctorwho will assess the patient's condition and recommend appropriate treatment.

Flixotide and other medicines

Please tell the doctor about all medicines that the patient is currently taking or has recently taken, as well as about medicines that the patient plans to take, including those that are available without a prescription.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, suspects that she may be pregnant, or plans to have a child, she should consult a doctor before using this medicine.

Driving and using machines

It is unlikely that possible side effects associated with the use of Flixotide will affect the ability to drive and use machines.

3. How to use Flixotide

This medicine should always be used in accordance with the doctor's recommendations. Do not take a dose larger than recommended. In case of doubts, please consult a doctor.

Dosage

Adults and adolescents over 16 years of age- 0.5 to 2.0 mg twice a day, strictly according to the doctor's recommendations.

Method of administration

Before use, shake the container thoroughly by shaking it several times. To open, twist the top, movable part of the container and tear it off.

Overdose of Flixotide

In case of overdose, please contact a doctor or pharmacist immediately for advice.

Missed dose of Flixotide

It is very important to take the recommended dose of the medicine every day, which will ensure the greatest effectiveness of the treatment.

Discontinuation of Flixotide

It is very important to take Flixotide every day until the doctor recommends discontinuation. Do not stop taking Flixotide suddenly, as the symptoms of the disease may worsen and hormonal disorders may occur in the body.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Flixotide can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Adverse reactions: seek medical attention immediately

Allergic reactionsto Flixotide, which occur uncommonly (may occur in 1 to 10 out of 1000 patients taking the medicine).Characterized by symptoms such as:

  • skin rash (hives) or redness.

Reporting side effects

If you experience any side effects, including any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse. Side effects can be reported directly to the Department of Monitoring of Adverse Reactions to Medicinal Products of the Office for Registration of Medicinal Products, Medical Devices, and Biocidal Products.

5. How to store Flixotide

Store in a temperature below 30°C. Protect from light, do not freeze.

6. Contents of the packaging and other information

What Flixotide, nebulizer suspension contains

  • The active substance of the medicine is fluticasone propionate (micronized). 2 ml of suspension (1 plastic container) contains 0.5 mg or 2 mg (milligrams) of fluticasone propionate (micronized).
  • Other ingredients are: polysorbate 20, sorbitan laurate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, disodium phosphate anhydrous, sodium chloride, water for injections.
