1. What Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid Aurovitas Pharma is and what it is used for

Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid is an antibiotic that eliminates the bacteria that cause infections. It contains two different medications called amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxicillin belongs to a group of medications known as "penicillins" that can sometimes lose their effectiveness (become inactivated). The other component (clavulanic acid) prevents this from happening.

Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections and are not effective against viral infections such as the flu or common cold.

It is essential to follow the instructions regarding dosage, administration interval, and treatment duration indicated by your doctor.

Do not store or reuse this medication. If you have any leftover antibiotic after completing treatment, return it to the pharmacy for proper disposal. Do not throw medications down the drain or in the trash.

Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid is used in adults and children to treat the following infections:

  • Middle ear and sinus infections,
  • Respiratory tract infections,
  • Urinary tract infections,
  • Skin and soft tissue infections, including dental infections,
  • Bone and joint infections.

2. What you need to know before taking Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid Aurovitas Pharma

Do not takeAmoxicillin/Clavulanic AcidAurovitas Pharma

  • if you are allergic to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, penicillins, or any of the other components of this medication (listed in section 6),
  • if you have had a severe allergic reaction (hypersensitivity) to any other antibiotic. This may include a mild skin rash or swelling of the face and throat,
  • if you have had liver problems or jaundice (yellowing of the skin) when taking an antibiotic.

Do not takeAmoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid Aurovitas Pharma if any of the above applies to you.

If you are unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid.

Warnings and Precautions

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before starting to take Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid Aurovitas Pharma if:

  • you have glandular fever or swollen lymph nodes,
  • you are being treated for kidney or liver problems,
  • you do not urinate regularly,

If you are unsure whether any of the above applies to you, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication.

In some cases, your doctor may investigate the type of bacteria causing the infection. Based on the results, a different concentration of Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid or a different medication may be prescribed.

Situations that need to be monitored

Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid may cause existing conditions to worsen or cause severe side effects. These include allergic reactions, seizures, and inflammation of the large intestine. You should be aware of certain symptoms while taking Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid to reduce the risk of any problems. See "Situations that need to be monitored" in section 4.

Blood and urine tests

Inform your doctor or nurse that you are taking Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid if you need to have blood tests (such as red blood cell tests or liver function tests) or urine tests (glucose tests). This is because Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid may affect the results of these tests.

Other medications and Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid Aurovitas Pharma

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are using, have recently used, or may need to use any other medications.

If you are taking allopurinol (for gout) with Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid, there may be a higher risk of having an allergic skin reaction.

Probenecid (used to treat gout), concomitant use of probenecid may reduce the excretion of amoxicillin and is not recommended.

If you are taking medications to prevent blood clot formation (such as warfarin) along with Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid, additional blood tests may be necessary.

Methotrexate (a medication used to treat cancer and severe psoriasis), penicillins may reduce the excretion of methotrexate and cause a potential increase in side effects.

Amoxicillin/Clavulanic Acid may affect how mycophenolate mofetil (a medication used to prevent organ transplant rejection) works.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and fertility

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medication.

Driving and using machines

Medical Advice/Education

Antibiotics are used to treat infections caused by bacteria. They have no effect against infections caused by viruses.

Sometimes, a bacterial infection does not respond to a course of an antibiotic. One of the most common reasons for this to happen is that the bacteria causing the infection are resistant to the antibiotic being taken. This means they can survive and even multiply despite the antibiotic.

Bacteria can become resistant to antibiotics for many reasons. Careful use of antibiotics can help reduce the likelihood of bacteria becoming resistant to them.

When your doctor prescribes an antibiotic treatment, it is only intended to treat your current illness. Paying attention to the following tips will help prevent the appearance of resistant bacteria that could stop the antibiotic from working.

  1. You should not take an antibiotic unless it has been specifically prescribed for you, and you should only use it to treat the infection for which it was prescribed.
  1. You should not take antibiotics that have been prescribed for other people, even if they had a similar infection to yours.
  1. You should not give antibiotics that were prescribed for you to other people.
  1. If you have any leftover antibiotic when you have completed the treatment as indicated by your doctor, you should take the remainder to a pharmacy for proper disposal.
