Xylometazolini hydrochloridum

Xylometazolin VP contains the active substance xylometazoline hydrochloride, which acts on receptors, including those found in the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa. The medicine constricts the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa and throat, reducing congestion, swelling, and discharge. It clears the nasal passages and the passages leading from the nasal cavity to the paranasal sinuses, reduces nasal discharge, and facilitates breathing through the nose.
The effect of the medicine starts within 5-10 minutes after administration and lasts for several hours (up to 10 hours).

For hygiene reasons (risk of infection transmission), the packaging of the medicine should only be used by one patient.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines the patient is taking, has recently taken, or plans to take.
Do not use Xylometazolin VP at the same time as medicines belonging to the group of:
The medicine is administered nasally - food and drink do not affect its action.
If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, thinks they may be pregnant, or plans to have a child, they should consult their doctor before using this medicine.
The medicine should not be used during pregnancy, unless the doctor considers it absolutely necessary.
Xylometazolin VP (0.5 mg/g) is intended for use in children from 2 to 12 years of age.
Xylometazolin VP does not affect the ability to drive or operate machinery if used as recommended and for a short period (up to 5 days). However, using too high a dose and taking the medicine for too long may impair these abilities (causing nausea, headache, palpitations, arrhythmias, insomnia).

Usually, the recommended dose of Xylometazolin VP (0.5 mg/g) is:
Children from 2 to 12 years of age: locally, 1 to 2 drops of the medicine into each nostril 1 or 2 times a day.
Children over 12 years of age and adults: a higher concentration of xylometazoline hydrochloride (1 mg/g) should be used.
If you feel that the effect of the medicine is too strong or too weak, consult your doctor.
Very rarely, overdose or accidental ingestion of the medicine (mainly in children) has been observed. Symptoms of overdose include: lowered body temperature, slowed heart rate, sweating, slowed movement, drowsiness, and even coma (especially in children).
In case of overdose, consult a doctor. Symptomatic treatment is used.
If a dose of the medicine is missed, it should be used as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not use a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
Stopping the use of Xylometazolin VP may cause the symptoms for which it is used to worsen.

Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the packaging. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.

Xylometazolin VP is a solution. The carton contains a polyethylene bottle with a dosing device and a screw cap with a tamper-evident ring, containing 10 ml of solution, and a patient leaflet.
