1. What is Oscillococcinum and what is it used for

Oscillococcinum is a medicine used to treat symptoms of the flu, colds, and flu-like infections: fever (up to 38.5°C), feeling of general malaise, muscle and joint pain. Oscillococcinum is recommended to be used as soon as the first symptoms of infection appear, such as a sore throat, feeling of malaise, or feeling cold. During periods of increased incidence of colds, taking Oscillococcinum once a week may reduce the number of illnesses.

2. Important information before using Oscillococcinum

When not to use Oscillococcinum

Oscillococcinum should not be used if the patient is allergic to the active substance or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and precautions

If the symptoms of the disease worsen or persist for more than 3 days, a doctor should be consulted. In case of a fever above 39°C, persistent cough, shortness of breath, or other worrying symptoms, a doctor should be contacted.

Children

Before starting to use Oscillococcinum in children under 5 years of age, a doctor, pharmacist, or nurse should be consulted.

Oscillococcinum and other medicines

The doctor or pharmacist should be informed about all medicines the patient is currently taking or has recently taken, as well as any medicines the patient plans to take.

Using Oscillococcinum with food and drink

There are no special requirements.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, thinks they may be pregnant, or plans to have a child, they should consult a doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.

Driving and using machines

Considering the composition of the product, it is not expected to affect driving or operating machines.

Oscillococcinum contains sucrose and lactose monohydrate

In case of intolerance to some sugars, a doctor should be consulted before taking this medicine.

3. How to use Oscillococcinum

This medicine should always be used exactly as described in the patient leaflet or as directed by a doctor, pharmacist, or nurse. In case of doubts, a doctor, pharmacist, or nurse should be consulted. The medicine should be taken orally. The contents of the container should be dissolved in the mouth, holding it under the tongue. The recommended dose of Oscillococcinum:

Adults, adolescents, and children over 5 years of age:

Prophylaxis(preventive treatment): during periods of increased incidence, take 1 dose of the medicine once a week. Onset of infection:take 1 dose of the medicine as soon as possible, if necessary, repeat 2 to 3 times every 6 hours. Developed infection:1 dose of the medicine in the morning and evening for 3 days. Children under 5 years of age:as directed by a doctor. The granules can be dissolved in a small amount of water and given with a spoon. Duration of use:if the symptoms of the disease worsen or persist for more than 3 days, a doctor should be consulted. For preventive purposes, the medicine should not be used for more than 6 months. Taking a higher dose of Oscillococcinum than recommended:a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted. Missing a dose of Oscillococcinum:a double dose should not be taken to make up for a missed dose. In case of any further doubts about using this medicine, a doctor, pharmacist, or nurse should be consulted.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Oscillococcinum can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

If any side effects occur, including any possible side effects not listed in the leaflet, the doctor, pharmacist, or nurse should be informed. Side effects can be reported directly to the Department of Monitoring of Adverse Reactions to Medicinal Products of the Office for Registration of Medicinal Products, Medical Devices, and Biocidal Products, Al. 5. How to store Oscillococcinum

There are no special storage requirements. The medicine should be stored out of sight and reach of children. The medicine should not be used after the expiry date stated on the packaging. The expiry date refers to the last day of the given month. Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste containers. A pharmacist should be asked how to dispose of medicines that are no longer needed. This will help protect the environment.

What Oscillococcinum contains

  • The active substance of the medicine is:Anas barbariae hepatis et cordis extractum200K - 0.01 ml in 1g of granules.
  • The other ingredients are:sucrose, lactose monohydrate.
