1. What is Magne-Balans Plus and what is it used for

Magne-Balans Plus is a medicine containing magnesium and potassium in the form of aspartates.
Magnesium, potassium, and aspartic acid are involved in metabolic processes, maintaining ionic balance, nerve conduction, and neuromuscular conduction in the human body.

Magnesium

Magnesium is found in the greatest amounts in tissues with the highest intensity of metabolic processes: the brain, heart muscle, and liver. Magnesium interacts with calcium ions in the formation of bone structure.
A proper level of magnesium affects:

  • reducing hyperexcitability;
  • facilitating concentration and falling asleep;
  • reducing susceptibility to stress and muscle function disorders, manifested by their tremors, cramps, and so-called tics;
  • reducing the risk of coronary artery disease, heart attack, and heart rhythm disorders. A magnesium deficiency increases the risk of coronary artery disease, heart attack, and heart rhythm disorders.

Potassium

The concentration of potassium ions in human body cells is 15 times higher than in the extracellular fluid. Disruption of this balance due to potassium metabolism disorders (e.g., potassium deficiency) usually poses a significant threat to the proper functioning of:

  • the nervous system, in nerve conduction and neuromuscular conduction (movement, heart function, functioning of other internal organs);
  • the transport system for various substances to and from body tissue cells (nutrition, respiration, excretion);
  • the circulatory and excretory systems in regulating water and electrolyte balance (maintaining blood pressure and acidity range).

Aspartic acidis a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. It has a stimulating effect on the body's activity through the regulation of potassium, sodium, and calcium ion concentrations in cells.

Indications for use

Magne-Balans Plus is used prophylactically and supplementally in cases of magnesium, potassium, and aspartate deficiency.

2. Important information before taking Magne-Balans Plus

When not to take Magne-Balans Plus

  • if the patient is allergic to the active substances or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
  • if the patient has kidney or adrenal gland failure;
  • if the patient has hyperkalemia (elevated potassium levels in the blood);
  • if the patient has hypermagnesemia (elevated magnesium levels in the blood);
  • if the patient has heart rhythm disorders;
  • if the patient has myasthenia gravis (a rare disease characterized by excessive muscle weakness);
  • if the patient has low blood pressure. Existing cancer is considered a relative contraindication.

Warnings and precautions

Before starting to take Magne-Balans Plus, the patient should discuss it with their doctor or pharmacist:

  • if the patient is dehydrated;
  • if the patient has extensive tissue damage (e.g., large-area burns);
  • in elderly patients due to reduced potassium excretion;
  • if the patient is taking other medicines containing magnesium and potassium, due to the risk of overdose. If the medicine is used for a long time, the magnesium and potassium levels in the blood should be regularly monitored.

Magne-Balans Plus and other medicines

The patient should inform their doctor or pharmacist about all medicines they are currently taking or have recently taken, as well as any medicines they plan to take.
If the patient is taking any of the following medicines, they should inform their doctor:

  • oral anticoagulant medicines derived from warfarin;
  • medicines or dietary supplements containing phosphates, iron compounds, high doses of calcium, as a 3-hour interval between administration of both products is recommended;
  • fluoroquinolone and tetracycline antibiotics, as a 3-hour interval between administration of both medicines is recommended;
  • potassium-sparing diuretics;
  • ACE inhibitors (medicines used to treat high blood pressure, heart failure);
  • non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (e.g., indomethacin used to treat pain);
  • digitalis glycosides, as potassium compounds weaken their effect. The use of other products containing magnesium (with a laxative or acid-neutralizing effect) may cause symptoms of magnesium poisoning, especially in patients with kidney failure.

If the patient is unsure whether they are taking any of the above medicines, they should contact their doctor or pharmacist.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, thinks they may be pregnant, or plans to have a child, they should consult their doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.

Driving and using machines

The medicine has no influence or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
