1. What is Lacidofil and what is it used for

Lacidofil is a probiotic, meaning it contains microorganisms (lactic acid bacteria) that have a beneficial effect on the body.
Lactic acid bacteria are found in the human gastrointestinal tract. They form a natural barrier, protecting against pathogenic microorganisms and maintaining the balance of bacterial flora in the gastrointestinal tract. For this reason, this medicine is used in the following cases:

  • prevention of disturbances in the gut microflora during and after antibiotic therapy
  • prevention of traveler's diarrhea
  • supportive treatment during and after antibiotic therapy
  • recurrent pseudomembranous colitis

2. Important information before using Lacidofil

When not to use Lacidofil:

  • if the patient is allergic to the active substance or any of the excipients of the medicine (listed in section 6),
  • if the patient has previously been diagnosed with intolerance to some sugars, the patient should consult a doctor before taking the medicine,
  • if the patient is allergic to cow's milk protein or soy,

Warnings and precautions

  • patients with acute pancreatitis,
  • patients with a central venous catheter and patients after surgical operations, particularly with a history of myocarditis or pericarditis, and after cardiac or gastrointestinal surgery, also within the oral cavity (including after tooth extraction), as open wounds are a potential gateway for bacterial infection,
  • patients with bloody diarrhea, especially infants and the elderly, as the gut-blood barrier is a potential gateway for bacterial infection,
  • patients with impaired immunity and those taking immunosuppressive drugs, including patients after transplants, during radio or chemotherapy, with impaired immune system, premature infants, patients with AIDS, with lymphoma, or undergoing long-term corticosteroid therapy,
  • children with short bowel syndrome, in whom lactic acidosis may be a complication after the use of probiotics. In these patients, the use of lactic acid-producing strains such as L. helveticusshould be monitored and discontinued immediately in case of an increase in blood lactate levels.
