important information for the patient.
This medicine should always be used exactly as described in the patient leaflet or according to
the recommendations of a doctor or pharmacist or nurse.

  • You should keep this leafletso that you can read it again if you need to.
  • If you need advice or additional information, you should consult a pharmacist.

Table of contents of the leaflet

  • 3. How to use Juvit C
  • 4. Possible side effects
  • 5. How to store Juvit C
  • 6. Contents of the packaging and other information

1. What is Juvit C and what is it used for

Vitamin C is involved in metabolic oxidation and reduction processes occurring in
cells, e.g. in the process of cellular respiration. It is necessary for the production of collagen, elastin
and intercellular substance, and thus for the proper development of cartilage, bone, teeth,
wound healing, and increased elasticity of blood vessels. It affects the production of immune bodies
in the body (it is believed to participate in the production of immunoglobulins and interferon) and facilitates
the absorption of iron in the intestines. It is necessary for the synthesis of adrenal steroids, catecholamines, insulin
and participates in the metabolism of aromatic amino acids and thyroxine metabolism.
Juvit C oral drops are intended for the treatment of vitamin C deficiency and prevention of diseases caused by vitamin C deficiency, primarily scurvy and its initial symptoms,
Moeller-Barlow disease, during convalescence, when using a diet low in vitamin C,
especially in artificially fed infants.
The medicine is especially recommended for children.

2. Important information before using Juvit C

When not to use Juvit C:

  • if the patient is allergic to ascorbic acid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
  • if the patient has kidney stone disease caused by oxalate. High doses should not be given to people with excessive iron absorption from the gastrointestinal tract.

Warnings and precautions

In patients with a deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, the medicine may cause hemolysis of red blood cells.
The medicine, when given in high doses, may affect the results of laboratory tests, especially those performed using oxido-reduction methods (falsely positive test result for glucose in urine, falsely negative test result for blood in stool, reduction of enzyme activity test results). Depending on the method used, it may distort or reduce the results of bilirubin content measurements in blood serum.
Before starting to use Juvit C, you should consult a doctor or pharmacist or nurse.

Juvit C and other medicines

You should tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines that the patient is currently using or has recently used, as well as any medicines that the patient plans to use.
Administration of vitamin C with sulfonamides may lead to the precipitation of sulfonamide crystals in urine. Vitamin C:

  • increases iron absorption;
  • prolongs the half-life of paracetamol in the blood;
  • acts synergistically with flavin glycosides;
  • may affect the increase in estrogen levels in blood serum when used concomitantly. Tetracyclines, oral contraceptives, barbiturates, and high doses of acetylsalicylic acid reduce ascorbic acid levels in the blood.

Juvit C with food and drink

Infants and young children can be given the medicine added to food or drink.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, or thinks they may be pregnant or plans to have a child, they should consult a doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
The medicine can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but caution should be exercised when using high doses of the medicine (do not exceed the recommended doses) due to the risk of vitamin C deficiency in the child.

Driving and operating machinery

The medicine does not affect the ability to drive and operate machinery.

3. How to use Juvit C

This medicine should always be used exactly as described in the patient leaflet or according to
the recommendations of a doctor or pharmacist or nurse. In case of doubt, you should consult a doctor or pharmacist or nurse.
The recommended dose (unless the doctor recommends otherwise) is:

children (from 3 years to 11 years): 10 drops once a day.
adolescents (from 12 years) and adults: 15-20 drops once a day (in case of increased demand and deficiency, the dose can be doubled and taken twice a day).
The medicine can be added to food or drink.
1 ml of the medicine corresponds to approximately 20 drops.
Due to the risk of overdose, the medicine should not be given directly from the bottle to the child's mouth.

Using a higher dose of Juvit C than recommended

In case of taking a higher dose of the medicine than recommended, you should immediately consult a doctor or pharmacist or nurse.

Missing a dose of Juvit C

2/4
You should not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
In case of any further doubts related to the use of this medicine, you should consult a doctor or pharmacist or nurse.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Vitamin C is usually well tolerated. High doses, especially when used for a long time, may sometimes cause headaches, skin redness, act as a diuretic, and lead to the deposition of calcium oxalate and urate crystals in the urinary tract. Tolerance development with symptoms of deficiency after withdrawal (scurvy) and even dependence, with headaches, has also been observed.

Reporting side effects

If you experience any side effects, including any possible side effects not listed in the leaflet, you should inform your doctor or pharmacist. Side effects can be reported directly to the Department of Post-Marketing Surveillance of the Office for Registration of Medicinal Products, Medical Devices, and Biocidal Products {current address, phone and fax number of the Department} e-mail: [email protected].
