1. What is Esputicon and what is it used for

Esputicon contains the active substance dimeticone, which is a low surface tension compound that changes the surface tension of gas bubbles in the digestive tract. It causes larger gas bubbles to break down into smaller ones, which are more easily absorbed. When taken orally, it relieves bloating and removes excess gas from the digestive tract. The medicine is used:

  • in cases of bloating and excessive gas in the intestines;
  • in preparations for certain X-ray and ultrasound examinations.

2. Important information before using Esputicon

There are no special warnings or precautions for use.

Children

Children can use Esputicon according to the doctor's recommendations.

Esputicon and other medicines

Esputicon can be used with other medicines.

Esputicon with food and drink

There are no special requirements for taking the medicine with meals.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, thinks they may be pregnant, or plans to have a child, they should consult their doctor before using this medicine.
Pregnancy
No adverse effects of Esputicon have been found during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding
No adverse effects of Esputicon have been found during breastfeeding.

Driving and using machines

Esputicon has no effect or insignificant effect on the ability to drive and use machines.

Using Esputicon in elderly patients

Elderly patients can use Esputicon.

3. How to use Esputicon

This medicine should be used exactly as described in the patient leaflet or as advised by a doctor or pharmacist. In case of doubts, please contact a doctor or pharmacist.
Oral administration.
Usual dose: adults 4 times a day, 2 drops after meals and before bedtime; if necessary, 3 times a day, 5 drops.
Preparation for X-ray or ultrasound examinations
Two days before the examination, 4 times a day, 2 drops; on the day of the examination, 5 drops on an empty stomach.
Children
Infants and young children from 1 month: for bloating, 1 to 2 drops, 2 times a day.
The medicine can be administered dropped onto sugar, into juice, or into another liquid.
It is odorless and tasteless, and can be added to the child's food.
Esputicon does not contain sugar, so it can be used by diabetic patients.
Before use, the bottle should be shaken vigorously several times

Using a higher than recommended dose of Esputicon

There is no risk of overdosing with Esputicon.

Missing a dose of Esputicon

A double dose should not be used to make up for a missed dose.
In case of any further doubts about using this medicine, please contact a doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
No side effects have been found to occur with Esputicon.

Reporting side effects

If any side effects occur, including any possible side effects not listed in the leaflet, the patient should inform their doctor or pharmacist. 5. How to store Esputicon

Store at a temperature below 25°C.
The medicine should be stored out of sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Please ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. This will help protect the environment.

6. Package contents and other information

What Esputicon contains

  • The active substance of the medicine is dimeticone. One drop contains approximately 20 mg of dimeticone.
  • The other ingredient is: anhydrous colloidal silica.

What Esputicon looks like and what the package contains

Esputicon is a colorless oily liquid, packaged in a plastic bottle (LDPE), with a dropper (LDPE), a cap (HDPE), and a cardboard box.
One package contains 5 g of the product.
