1. What is Tantum Verde Forte and what is it used for

Tantum Verde Forte contains the active substance benzydamine, which belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Benzydamine is characterized by its strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, and it also has local anesthetic and antiseptic properties. Thanks to its good local absorption and high concentration in inflamed tissues, symptoms quickly subside. The medicine is well-tolerated and suitable for local treatment of inflammatory symptoms.
The medicine is used to treat symptoms (pain, redness, swelling) associated with inflammation of the oral cavity and throat, such as bacterial and viral infections, pharyngitis, inflammation of the mucous membranes after radiotherapy, post-operative conditions in laryngology and stomatology, and after intubation.
If after 7 days there is no improvement or the patient feels worse, they should consult their doctor.

2. Important information before using Tantum Verde Forte

When not to use Tantum Verde Forte

If the patient is allergic to benzydamine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and precautions

Before starting to use Tantum Verde Forte, the patient should discuss it with their doctor or pharmacist.
Using, especially long-term, locally acting medicines may cause an allergic reaction, in which case the medicine should be discontinued and the patient should consult their doctor, who will recommend appropriate action.

Tantum Verde Forte and other medicines

The patient should inform their doctor or pharmacist about all medicines they are currently taking or have recently taken, as well as any medicines they plan to take.
No interactions between Tantum Verde Forte and other medicines are known.

Tantum Verde Forte should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

The medicine does not affect the ability to drive or operate machinery.

Tantum Verde Forte contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218), hydrogenated castor oil, ethanol 96%, and a flavoring composition, as well as sodium.

Methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218)

The medicine may cause allergic reactions (possible late reactions).

Hydrogenated castor oil

The amount of alcohol in a single dose of this medicine is equivalent to less than 1 ml of beer or 1 ml of wine. The small amount of alcohol in this medicine will not have noticeable effects.

Flavoring composition

The medicine contains a flavoring composition with benzyl alcohol (E 1519), citronellol, d-limonene, eugenol, geraniol, linalool, which may cause allergic reactions.
The medicine contains 0.017 µg (micrograms) of benzyl alcohol in each dose (0.17 ml). Benzyl alcohol may cause allergic reactions and mild local irritation.
Patient with liver or kidney disease should consult their doctor before using the medicine, as a large amount of benzyl alcohol may accumulate in their body and cause side effects (so-called metabolic acidosis).

Sodium

The medicine contains less than 1 mmol (23 mg) of sodium per dose, which means the medicine is considered "sodium-free".
