Paracetamol + Caffeine + Codeine phosphate hemihydrate
This medicine should always be taken exactly as described in this patient leaflet, or according to the doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
Solpadeine Max can be used in patients over 12 years of age for the short-term relief of moderate pain that requires a stronger analgesic effect than observed with other pain relievers, such as those containing paracetamol, ibuprofen, or acetylsalicylic acid alone.
It can be used to treat headache, migraine with or without aura, toothache (including pain after tooth extraction), painful menstruation, neuralgia, pain associated with injuries, back pain, bone and joint pain associated with arthritis and rheumatism, and sciatica.
The tablets contain three active substances: paracetamol, codeine, and caffeine. Codeine and paracetamol are pain relievers. Codeine belongs to a group of pain relievers called opioids, which can be used alone or in combination with other pain relievers. Caffeine enhances the effectiveness of paracetamol. Due to the triple mechanism of action of the ingredients, it is possible to quickly relieve moderate pain.
Codeine is converted to morphine by a liver enzyme. Morphine is a substance that relieves pain. Some people have a changed enzyme, and this can affect them in different ways. In some people, morphine is not produced or is produced in very small amounts, which does not provide adequate pain relief. Other people are more likely to experience severe side effects caused by the production of very large amounts of morphine. If the patient experiences any of the following side effects, they should stop taking the medicine and immediately consult a doctor: slow or shallow breathing, disorientation, drowsiness, small pupils, nausea or vomiting, constipation, loss of appetite.
Before using, consult a doctor if the patient has liver or kidney problems, is underweight (<50kg), is malnourished, or regularly drinks alcohol, as this may increase the risk of liver damage. It may be necessary to reduce the amount of paracetamol taken or completely avoid using this product.
Before starting to take Solpadeine Max, discuss it with a doctor or pharmacist:
Do not give this medicine to children under 12 years of age.
Use in children and adolescents after surgical procedures:Codeine should not be used to relieve pain in children and adolescents after tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy due to obstructive sleep apnea.
Use in children with breathing difficulties: Codeine is not recommended for children with breathing difficulties, as symptoms of morphine toxicity may worsen in these children.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines the patient is currently taking or has recently taken, especially the following: metoclopramide or domperidone (used to treat nausea and vomiting); cholestyramine (used to lower blood cholesterol levels); monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) prescribed for depression taken in the last 2 weeks or sedating substances (e.g., sedatives, antidepressants, or alcohol).
Concomitant use of Solpadeine Max and sedating medicines (e.g., benzodiazepines or derivatives) increases the risk of drowsiness, breathing difficulties (respiratory depression), or coma, which can be life-threatening. Therefore, combination therapy should only be considered when other treatment options are not available.
If Solpadeine Max is used with other sedating medicines, the doctor should limit the dose and duration of concomitant use.
The patient should tell their doctor about all sedating medicines they are taking and strictly follow the prescribed dose. It may be helpful to inform a relative or close friend of the patient about the possibility of the above symptoms. If these symptoms occur, the patient should consult a doctor.
If the patient is pregnant, they should consult a doctor before taking Solpadeine Max.
Do not take Solpadeine Max while breastfeeding. Codeine and morphine pass into breast milk.
Do not drive or operate machinery while taking Solpadeine Max, as it can cause dizziness or excessive drowsiness.
The maximum recommended daily dose of this medicinal product (8 tablets) contains 3416 mg of sodium (found in salt). This corresponds to 171% of the recommended maximum daily sodium intake for an adult. Consult a doctor or pharmacist if the patient needs to use Solpadeine Max daily for an extended period, especially if a low-salt diet has been prescribed.
This medicine contains 50 mg of sorbitol in each tablet.
Sorbitol is a source of fructose. If the patient has previously been diagnosed with intolerance to some sugars or has a hereditary fructose intolerance, a rare genetic disorder in which the patient's body does not break down fructose, the patient should consult a doctor before taking the medicine or giving it to their child.
This medicine should always be taken exactly as described in this patient leaflet, or according to the doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
In case of doubt, consult a doctor or pharmacist.
