1. What is SALICYLOL and what is it used for

SALICYLOL is an oily solution of salicylic acid, with antibacterial, antifungal, and mildly keratolytic effects, i.e., dissolving the stratum corneum.
It is particularly indicated for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis, characterized by persistent dandruff, fungal infections such as superficial fungal infections of the scalp, scalp fungal infections with inflammatory reactions, and pityriasis versicolor. It is also used as an adjunct in the treatment of acne.

2. Important information before using SALICYLOL

When not to use SALICYLOL:

  • if the patient is allergic to salicylic acid or castor oil,
  • in children under 3 years of age,
  • in acute inflammatory skin conditions,
  • on open wounds,
  • on large skin surfaces,
  • on the mucous membranes of the eyes, mouth, and nose - in case of contact with mucous membranes, wash the medicine off with warm water.

Warnings and other precautions

Before starting to use SALICYLOL, discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist.

Children

Do not use in children under 3 years of age.

SALICYLOL and other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, or have recently taken, and about any medicines you plan to take.
Do not use at the same time as skin preparations containing resorcin and riwanol, as chemical reactions may occur between salicylic acid and these ingredients.

Using SALICYLOL with food and drink

No effect.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or plan to have a child, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
It is not recommended to use the medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Driving and using machines

SALICYLOL has no effect on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery.

3. How to use SALICYLOL

This medicine should always be used exactly as described in this patient leaflet or
according to the doctor's or pharmacist's instructions. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the medicine is usually used as described below.

Adults and children over 3 years of age

Apply the medicine by rubbing it into the affected skin area with a swab soaked in the solution, brushing the hair aside. Wash your head after 1-2 hours. Repeat the treatment several times at 3-4 day intervals.
If you feel that the effect of the medicine is too strong or too weak, you should also consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Using a higher dose of SALICYLOL than recommended

No data on overdose of the medicine used topically.

Missing a dose of SALICYLOL

Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose, but continue treatment as usual.

Stopping the use of SALICYLOL

If you have any further doubts about using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
During treatment with the medicine, skin allergic reactions may occur. If such symptoms occur, stop using the medicine and consult your doctor.
In some people, other side effects may occur during treatment with SALICYLOL. If you experience other side effects not listed in this leaflet, inform your doctor.

If you experience any side effects, including any side effects not listed in the leaflet, tell your doctor or pharmacist. Side effects can be reported directly to the Department of Monitoring of Adverse Reactions to Medicinal Products of the Office for Registration of Medicinal Products, Medical Devices, and Biocidal Products

5. How to store SALICYLOL

Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
Store the medicine at a temperature below 25°C.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines that are no longer needed. This will help protect the environment.

The active substances of the medicine are salicylic acid and castor oil.

Package
A brown glass bottle with a hard polyethylene cap, containing 100 g of the medicine. The bottle, along with the patient information leaflet, is placed in a labeled cardboard box.
