1. What is Maxicortan and what is it used for

Maxicortan cream is intended for topical use on the skin. It contains the active substance hydrocortisone acetate, which has anti-inflammatory, anti-itching, and vasoconstrictive effects. This medicine belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids.

Indications for Use

Maxicortan is used topically in inflammatory skin conditions of various origins, primarily of allergic origin, of moderate severity, which respond to glucocorticosteroids. Local treatment:

  • atopic dermatitis;
  • allergic contact dermatitis, urticaria;
  • reactions occurring after insect bites or stings (such as itching and irritation).

Do not use for more than 7 days without a doctor's recommendation.

2. Important Information Before Using Maxicortan

When Not to Use Maxicortan:

  • on the face;
  • in children under 12 years of age without a doctor's recommendation.

Warnings and Precautions

Before starting to use Maxicortan, discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist. Tell your doctor:

While using Maxicortan, follow these warnings.

  • Do not apply the medicine to healthy skin.
  • Do not use large doses of the medicine, on a large skin surface, and for a long time, as corticosteroids are absorbed into the blood and may cause side effects (listed in section 4: Possible side effects).
  • If a skin infection occurs at the site of application of Maxicortan, contact a doctor.
  • Avoid contact of the medicine with the eyes and mucous membranes. If the medicine gets into the eyes or nose, rinse them immediately with water.
  • The medicine may be used on the skin of the armpits and groin only in absolutely necessary cases, as the medicine is absorbed faster in these areas and there is a risk of increased side effects. In such cases, consult a doctor.
  • After applying Maxicortan to the skin, do not cover the area with any dressing (especially foil or cerate), as this increases the absorption of the medicine.

Children

Do not use in children under 12 years of age without a doctor's recommendation. There is a risk of growth and development disorders in children.

Maxicortan and Other Medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines you are taking, have recently taken, or plan to take. There are no known interactions between Maxicortan cream and other medicines.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or plan to have a child, consult a doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine. Do not use Maxicortan during pregnancy and breastfeeding without a doctor's recommendation. If a doctor recommends using the medicine during pregnancy or breastfeeding, use it with caution, for a short time, and on a small skin surface.

Maxicortan Contains Cetostearyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Methyl Parahydroxybenzoate, and Propyl Parahydroxybenzoate
