1. What is Epiduo and what is it used for

Epiduo is used to treat acne vulgaris.
The gel contains two active substances, adapalene and benzoyl peroxide, which work together,
but in different ways.
Adapalene belongs to a group of medicines called retinoids and works specifically on the processes in the
skin that cause acne.
The second active substance of the medicine, benzoyl peroxide, has antibacterial effects and softens and
exfoliates the outer layer of the skin.

2. Important information before using Epiduo

When not to use Epiduo:

  • In pregnant women
  • In women planning to become pregnant
  • If the patient is allergic to adapalene or benzoyl peroxide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and precautions

  • Epiduo should not be used on skin areas with cuts, abrasions, or eczema (dermatitis).
  • Be careful not to get Epiduo in your eyes, mouth, nose, or other sensitive areas of the body. If this happens, rinse the area with plenty of warm water.
  • Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight and UV lamps.
  • Avoid contact between Epiduo and hair or dyed fabrics, as it may discolor them. After applying the medicine, wash your hands thoroughly. Before starting treatment with Epiduo, discuss this with your doctor.

Epiduo and other medicines

  • Do not use other anti-acne medicines (containing benzoyl peroxide and/or retinoids) at the same time as Epiduo.
  • Avoid using Epiduo and cosmetics that cause irritation, dryness, or exfoliation of the skin. Tell your doctor about all medicines you are taking or have recently taken, as well as any medicines you plan to use.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

DO NOT use Epiduo during pregnancy or if you are planning to become pregnant.
For more information, consult your doctor.
If you become pregnant while using Epiduo, stop treatment and inform your doctor as soon as possible for further monitoring.
Epiduo can be used during breastfeeding. To avoid exposing the baby to the medicine, do not apply Epiduo to the breast area.

Epiduo is intended for use in adults, adolescents, and children from 9 years of age.
The medicine is for use on the skin only.
Apply a thin layer of the medicine evenly to the affected skin area once a day, before bedtime, avoiding contact with the eyes, mouth, and nostrils. Before applying the medicine, the skin should be clean and dry. After applying the medicine, wash your hands thoroughly.
Your doctor will decide how long you should use Epiduo.
If you feel that the effect of Epiduo is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
If you experience persistent irritation while using Epiduo, contact your doctor.
Your doctor may recommend using moisturizing creams, applying the gel less frequently, interrupting treatment for a while, or stopping treatment altogether.
