This medicine should always be used exactly as described in this package leaflet for the patient or as directed by a doctor or pharmacist.

1. What is Borasol and what is it used for

Borasol is a solution for use on the skin. Borasol contains the active substance boric acid, which has antifungal and antibacterial effects.

Indications

For disinfecting in inflammatory skin conditions, eczema, burns, bruises, swelling of soft tissues, in superficial skin damage or skin lesions, and in inflammatory conditions of the external genital organs.

2. Important information before using Borasol

When not to use Borasol:

  • orally,
  • in the eyes,
  • on extensive wounds and open cuts,
  • on large areas of skin.

Warnings and precautions

Before starting to use Borasol, the patient should discuss it with their doctor or pharmacist. Longer treatment should only be carried out under medical supervision. If irritation, redness of the skin occurs, the patient should stop using the medicine and consult their doctor.

Children and adolescents

Do not use in infants and children under 11 years of age.

Borasol and other medicines

The patient should tell their doctor or pharmacist about all medicines they are currently taking or have recently taken, as well as any medicines they plan to take. Borasol should not be used with medicines containing methenamine, tannin, carbonates, alkaline hydroxides, colloidal silver solutions, quaternary ammonium bases, or Peruvian balsam.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and fertility

If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, thinks they may be pregnant, or plans to have a child, they should consult their doctor before using this medicine. There is no data on the safety of using Borasol during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Driving and using machines

No effects on the ability to drive and use machines have been observed.

3. How to use Borasol

This medicine should always be used exactly as described in this package leaflet for the patient or as directed by a doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt, the patient should consult their doctor or pharmacist. The medicine is intended for topical use on the skin. If the doctor does not recommend otherwise, the affected areas are usually wiped with the medicine 2 to 3 times a day. It is used in the form of compresses, dressings, and rinses. It should be used for a short time. If the patient feels that the effect of Borasol is too strong or too weak, they should consult their doctor.

Using more than the recommended dose of Borasol

In case of using too much medicine, it should be washed off the skin with water and the patient should contact their doctor.

Missing a dose of Borasol

In case of missing a dose, the patient should continue treatment using Borasol as usual, according to the recommendations. If the medicine has been accidentally ingested, the patient should immediately contact their doctor. If the patient has any further doubts about using this medicine, they should consult their doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Borasol can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. If the medicine is used on damaged skin, redness, rash, peeling of the skin, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions, fever, collapse, kidney damage, oliguria, drowsiness, or coma may occur. If the medicine is used for a long time, symptoms of chronic boric acid poisoning may occur, such as gastrointestinal disorders, skin inflammation, menstrual disorders, anemia, weakness, convulsions, and hair loss. If any of the side effects get worse or if the patient experiences any side effects not listed in the package leaflet, they should inform their doctor or pharmacist.

If the patient experiences any side effects, including any possible side effects not listed in the package leaflet, they should inform their doctor or pharmacist or nurse. 5. How to store Borasol

The medicine should be stored out of sight and reach of children. Store in a temperature below 25°C in a closed package. Protect from light. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the package. The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month. Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. The patient should ask their pharmacist how to dispose of medicines that are no longer needed. This will help protect the environment.

  • The active substance of Borasol is boric acid. 1 g of solution for the skin contains 30 mg of boric acid.
  • The other ingredient is: purified water.
