Your doctor may also prescribe acetylsalicylic acid (a substance found in many medicines, used to relieve pain and reduce fever, as well as to prevent blood clotting).
  • you have had symptoms of a stroke that have resolved within a short period (called a transient ischemic attack) or a mild ischemic stroke. Your doctor may also prescribe acetylsalicylic acid within the first 24 hours.
